say vs playsound...

having problems getting units to say sounds. the lips move but nothing comes out. playsound plays the sound no problem so i was using both commands to get the required effect, i.e. lips moving and sound happening. occasionally it would sound as if two copies of the sound were running at the same time, so i'd take out a playsound command and the say command would work.

is there a reason for say not being heard? i've checked the fadesound volume and it's fine.

As long as I know, sound files for playSound and playMusic should be stereo, while sound files for Say (3D positioned sound) should be mono.

THe unit's not talking on the radio at the same time as you're trying to get him to say something is he?

I've had problems with that in the past... had a looping script to keep a group in position, and the group leader couldn't talk because he was always transmitting "Group, move to ..." over the radio.

Failing that, you could fake it by creating an object (invisible H or something) at the unit's position and get the object to say the line... (ugly, but it would work)

yup. that's what it was. been so long since i put any sound in a mission i'd forgotten the rules.  :-[

Hello community,

I have the very SAME problem like bedges, but I use mono ogg files. There is another constraints for ogg files? Maybe sample rate or something...?

I examined an other 3rd party mission and ogg files was 10000 hz (or near to 10k), but my ogg files are 44000hz. My wav2ogg appl can do only 44Khz, but if this is the problem, I download some new converter.

bedges: the mono oggs solved your problem? How many sampla rate have your oggs?

for voice, 16000Hz.

My original WAVs are mono, but my stupid converter made tham to stereo. I chek it again, and now works. Thanks!

Have anybody a good idea how can I DL a wav2ogg converter, what works well (mono) and can converte lots of wavs in same batch?

I'm using dbPowerAMP. It does stereo/mono and converts multiple files at once.

I use Goldwave.Its free, and has loads of nice features too, and you can do all sorts of tricks with it.
You can use it to edit sounds, or music and change them to loads of variations.

Yeah Goldwave. It's free for 3000 commands, or at least mine is. After you've finished the 3000 commands though uninstall it and download a pevious version. Install that then uninstall it again and then install the newer version, you get your 3000 uses back. But don't tell anyone, it's a secret.
