« on: 29 Oct 2005, 19:48:04 »
Hi...
I was wondering if it is possible to export terrain from wrpTool (0.950) in to visitor and Visitor in to wrpTool (0.950) ?

Yes it is possible.

WrpTool saves .wrp files in 4WVR format, so you would need to binarize them so them are in OPRW format.

Once they are binarized you should be able to load them into Visitor.

Visitor will save them in 4WVR format and therefore WrpTool should be able too load them.

WrpTool has its own support forum if you need more info:

Ahhh......there are 2 versions of binarize.

The old version and the newer version.

I have it in the back of my mind that the old version is better for binarizing .wrp files......I could be wrong.

Anyway, Binarize, the newer version, can be found here:

i tried to binarize my island but it didn't work at all.

when there's no appropriate folder yet in the opt directory binarize returns a file not found error and then copies the to-be-binarized-directory into the opt dir.
when i repeat the operation (directory already exists in opt dir) there's no error message, binarize says 'convert world imuc_i\etc -> opt\etc', but again it only copies the files without converting the .wrp in fact.

a second strange thing is that the associated ground textures are not copied as when models are converted.

//edit: planck, that's what you mean by 'old version is better for binarizing .wrp files', right? if so, where can i find the older one? i only have the new version unfortunately.

Hehehehe.......I found the old version of Binarize.

It is in the Editors Depot.... Here

The Editors Depot does not have the newer version.

The old version....binarize.exe has a date of 11-10-2002
The new version....binarize.exe has a date of 14-10-2002

hmmm.. bummer, the old binarize version doesn't return any error messages any more, but it doesn't work any better either. the island is still in 4WVR format. :-\

You must have your .wrp file, along with its config and the textures, in a folder.

This folder must be in the same place as the binarize.exe file.

The result of the operation will be put into a new folder which is in the opt folder.

If it still doesn't work send it all to me and I will try.

of course the island folder is in the same folder as binarize, but why must the textures be in the same folder as the .wrp? binarize copies them into the opt folder now (dunno why), so i guess the programme detects them at least.
when i binarized addon models the textures weren't in the same dir either and it worked fine so why shouldn't it work like that for islands  ???

all this is starting to confuse me now....

i can send you the whole pack, but it weighs some 20mb with ground textures, so maybe tomorrow when i've got more time. ;)
and what about the used models? must be another 40mb of unreleased stuff. i guess binarize needs them, too-

Hmmmmmm..........not sure if binarize would need to find the addons used, I don't think so.

I think for the textures........it only needs them in the same folder if they are custom textures, it should find standard textures if you have them already in the search path.

If you send, just send the .wrp and config and any custom textures, don't bother with standard textures as I have them already.  hehehehehe
