Editing Tip (Beginner)
« on: 17 Sep 2005, 22:20:25 »
This is designed for beginner mission creators. Now I haven't given a lot of tips before to people on here. Usually I just post for help and respond to those. Also I dont help a lot of people because I cant answer their questions right now. Although I'm not a newbie in mission editing I still have a lot to learn.

Here are some tipcs for you newbies out there creating your first, second or more missions.

TIPS

1) Create simple and small missions first:
Dont try to make them to complicated for yourself. Why overload your self with too many commands and bla bla bla chineese language if you dont know it. Use the commands and experience that you know.

2) Using Other Peoples scripts:
When you do this, make sure you know what your doing. Try to refrain from using a script to just make your mission look cool. Although I'm not saying you can't do this, but it will cause you more confusion down the road once you get the mission all made out and their are errors and your lost on how to do something.

3) Getting farter:
So you want to move on quicker then your patient for ha? Well mission dont take one night to create if you want them to be good. Please be patient and ask for help on the subject you know but your trying to advance in. Our OFPEC community members will be sure to help you. They are reliable.

4) Command Reference:
Use this to learn new commands in mission editing. Try to learn a few at a time and know them by heart. Know how to type each word, symbol. This will save you time.

Well those are my tips for today, please reply with your comments & questions. Thanks...

NightJay0044, it's excellent that you want to put something back into the community.    ;)

However, the forum is not the best place for isolated hints and tips like these, excellent as they are.   The right thing to do is to submit them to the Editors Depot as a Tutorial or FAQ item as appropriate.    The amount of information potentially available about OFP editing is huge and for it to be useful it has to be organised - that is what the Editors Depot is for.  The forum is the place to come to ask questions or discuss things.

The submission interface in the Ed Depot is pretty straightforward but if you have any problems don't hesitate to ask a member of staff or post in the Ed Depot Feedback board.

In the meantime, although I'll have to lock this, these are four excellent tips and I would recommend any noob mission designer to take note of them.
