The equivilent to the British Commandos is the Russian Naval Infantry (only in terms of role), dunno about the russian equivilent to Rangers although the British equivilent is the RAFReg.

::) I dont think the RAF regiment are shock troops, no dis-respect but i think to compare them to Rangers is kinda of wrong.
I know the RAF Regiment do a good job, guarding airstrips and instalations etc and are soldiers in their own right. But they are not employed to parachute and seize airfields and act like Rangers , thats left to the experts, like the Paras ::)

Punker check out these Russian Parachute Troops:

Its hard to compare units from different countries, But these geezers are probably close to what you might be seeking.

Thats what I've said in my earlier post, VDV Voenno desantnie Voeska.......russian paratroopers..........

btw, do the British Commandos perform the same role as a USMC (marine corps)?? if so, then the morpeh (naval Infantry) is a russian equivilent to em......

Although their primary role is to guard raf installations. They also have an assault role No. 2 Sqn. RAFReg are para roled although the more usual method is to have a Herc do a roll along a runway spewing gunners and landies out the back. And the Paras are a bunch of f##kwits. ::)

A commando in the British Forces is anyone who has passed either the Commando Course (for recruits) or the All-Arms Commando Course (for those already in the forces).

All members of the Royal Marines are commandos. But so are all the members of the specialist units which support amphibious assaults; specifically two RE amphibious combat engineer squadrons and an RA regiment, all the other specialists (REME, AGC, RAMC etc.) are indiginous to the Commandos (Battalion). Even the chaplains will be commando qualified. You will also find commandos in non-amphibious units since people can complete the course and then RTU, or serve with an amphibious unit and then be transfered.

I thought Commandos were like the Army Rangers, I know the Idea for Ranger School in the Begining was to be like Commando School, but I suppose with the Introduction of Helicopters and the fact the CQB and Urban Warfare is becoming more and More Common, the role of the Rangers is getting a little more Diverse.

FLT SGT 97 I obviously hit a nerve there  ::) lol
you a RAF cadet or something? lol

But like i said the RAF Regiment do a good job, but they are not shock troops like the Parachute Regiment or Royal Marine Commandos so how you can compare them to something like the Rangers etc beggers belief.

Your insult to the Parachute Regiment has been noted  ;)

Yer, big nerve. ;)

In the Ranger's main specialised role - airbase capture. The only specialised force in Britain is the RAF Regiment. The RM specialise in amphibious assault and mountain warfare. ParaReg specialise in airborne and airmobile operations as well as the light infantry role. The RAFReg specialises in airbase capture and defence. Simple as.
