Horizontal ladder
« on: 12 May 2005, 21:24:18 »
Hi all,

I came up with this idea for a mission recently, and it involves you passing from one petrovice-style rooftop to another, so you can clear out the building you've just moved onto, and use abseiling techniques to perform a roof clearing etc (If you've read Chris Ryan's 'The kremlin device', i'm basing it on that)

Anyway, I need a ladder to reach across the rooftops.
I could use pallets, but it looks messy.
The ladder doesn't have to be get-in-able, just a long, thin object that you can walk on, with ladder textures simular/the same as the BIS ladder ones.

Even just a horizontal version of the BIS ladder would be ideal.  ;D

So, can anyone spare the time to make this? I'm not sure about this, but it should be pretty easy to turn a ladder a few degrees round right? (don't quote me on that)  ;)

Thanks

Isn't there a training object that if sunk into the building the right way, will look like a wooden plank? Training 3? :P

Thats a good idea.  ;)

Unfortunatly, I'm thinking more of a ladder 8m across maybe. That kinda distance. The training one is about 1-2m. However, I will use loads of them together if I have to  :-\

Well, this should indeed not be difficult to make such a
thingy'

Unfortunately i'm gonna have to wait at least 1 week from
now, until i can start working on anything  :-\

If you're then still in need of summit like that i'll give it a go.

Some suggestions here:

a)
wooden planks with roadway lod - this will make it able to
walk on them - but there might be a problem for ai as for
sure they will tend to fall down from there.

But as i reckon' from your basic idea - it's for players anywayz
and not for ai.

b)
some objects (might be really a horizontal ladder or some rain
pipes or whatever), offering the feature to: climb laddr up/down

could maybe look stupid if presented to other players, which
don't just be happy for the feature because of unrealistic
climb up/down for horizontal movement  ;)

c)
some metal architecture in like you can see on oil-rigs or fabrics including ceilling on left/righ - to walk over without possibility
of falling down

:edit

Thanks for the suggestions Chris Death.
If it did come to using pallets or the training item, I might make a trigger in the other roof top, that when you enter it, theres a blck out scene and the other soliders are setposed onto the new roof.  ;)

@Oyman
That would be great if you could make one.  ;D
