Odd Problem...
« on: 20 Feb 2005, 00:43:37 »
Anyone know why when I'm messing with waypoints, sometimes it won't allow me to click on units to assign waypoints to them, for example, having a 'get in' waypoint, then from there it goes to a unit with 'join', when I click on the unit I want them to join, it brings up that units options.

Also, is there anyway I can have more than one 'join' waypoint assigned to a single unit?  So, three different groups join the same unit.  When I normally try to do it, it just brings up the join option from the other group.

So, Unit A joins Unit B, but I can't click on Unit B's leader since he already has that join waypoint on him from the other group, so it just brings up that waypoint options.

First of all,

Welcome to the forum!

You don't give waypoints to units, you give them to groups.   A group may have only one unit in it, but its still a group.

To make one group join another, give one group a join waypoint.   Give the other group a join and lead waypoint.    Synchronise the two waypoints.    For the first group, waypoints after the join one are pointless as the group ceases to exist after it joins the second group.

If you have a number of groups which are to join in a sequence, then the waypoints will look something like this

1.  move - join
2.  move - join&lead - join
3.  move - move - join&lead

Each time a join WP is synchronised to a join&lead.

There are tutorials on waypoints in the Editors Depot.   (Link at the top of this page.)    Look under Tutorials - Getting Started.    You will find a lot of other useful stuff there too.

You gotta highlight them with a click. If you don't it'll just take you to the units page.

When you're making multiple units join one guy's group, you have to hold shift whilst your adding the "Join" waypoint to him.

Really however, you should make units join via a script when you can.

Sometimes when a waypoint is directly on top of a unit it seems to get stuck to the unit and putting the mouse on top of it only selects the waypoint.  To get to the unit underneath put the mouse on top of it and then press the shift key.
