Acitivating Outro
« on: 01 Nov 2004, 00:38:11 »
First off, great site!  Been playing op flash for quite awhile, but just started to learn mission creation.  I have downloaded and read many of the tutorials that are posted and for that I am very appreciative.
My question is this.....How do I activate my intro and outro scenes?
I have created a mission/intro/outrowin/outrolose all using the editor.  I have been able to get the objectives to work and also for the mission to end properly.  My problem is I am confused as to how to "trigger" my intro/outro scenes.  I have tried several different triggers but must be using some wrong command.  All of my scenes work in preview but I do not know how to insert the proper commands to initiate them.
I am still a little intimidated about using scripts/camera.sqs.  I have just skim read thru them and believe I need more time to study them.  Right now I would just like to know how to use the editor to be able to have my intro/outro's play.  Also, intro's and outro's can be played in online mp games can't they?
Thanks guys in advance!

AFAIK, no they can't.
But to trigger your camera, you would place a trigger, for Intros/outros you would have the condition TRUE
and in activation: this exec "camera.sqs" obviously camera is switched with the name of your script

for cutscene's in the mission you need to change the condition to whatever is going to cause the cutscene

I would suggest you look around the Ed. depot, there are loads of tuts there, it wont take long to learn everything.
also there is about a 4 or 5 page thread in this board about camera scripting, so if you havent looked there, its probably a good idea  ;)
ex. East Present
this exec "camera.sqs"

Are you are talking about the intro/outro that you edit by clicking on the button in the editor? In that case, they run automatically, once you export your mission as a pbo. There are two different outros though; which outro plays will depend on what trigger is used to end the mission.

Yes, I am talking about the outros created with the editor.  What I am not sure is what commands to use on the triggers to activate the outros once the mission ends.  I used a trigger to end the mission, which it does, but I for the life of me cannot get the outrowin to play.  I am almost positive it is because I am not using the correct  terms in the activation of the triggers.
I have looked at other missions that I have but it appears they all used scripts to to do this and did not use the editor.  What would be the simplest solution to trigger the outrowin scene upon mission completetion?

If you use one of the end1-endX triggers, it should play the outrowin after the mission ends. Actually, there is no way to end a mission directly via scripts; you can only end it with a trigger.

Does your mission even end? If so,  I'm not sure what the problem is...

general barron has a point here, have you exported it as a pbo yet (i.e. saved it by exporting to single missions in the drop down save as type menu)? if not dw, cos the mission becomes a coherant unit only after you have made it a pbo.

Yes my mission ends.  It goes directly to the breifing page.  But the outro never appears.   I am sure I am just not using the proper words in the proper places in the trigger.  Could one of you tell me what to put in the activation/condition boxes for this trigger.  I have the mission trigger to end the game when east is nonpresent. type is end #1.  That all works.  What I know I am doing wrong is the rigger for the outro.  I am not sure what to put in the activation\condition\type field.  I appreciate you guys bearing with me on this.
Thanks

Forget triggers.    This is not a trigger problem.

I'll reiterate what has already been said:  the Outro plays automatically after the debriefing.    If the Outro doesn't play, that means there is a problem in the Outro.   The mission is fine.

Make a test Outro just to see if you can get it to work.   It should consist of just a  "player" unit and nothing else.    You can't actually play the player unit in an Intro or Outro, but you still need one.     If you want the Outro to end add a trigger type End#1, just like you did for the mission.

Oh, and

Welcome to the forum!

if you have the "end1-endx" in the type box of the trigger then it will produce the "outro - win" if you have "loose" then it goes to the "outro - loose"

just double check, though, is your mission being played in the editor or as a single mission when this problem occurs. if its in the editor it will fix when it becomes a single mission, if not follow the above advice.
