Young and old
« on: 02 Nov 2004, 07:50:57 »
I need some civilian children and old people.  I cannot find them in the standard game.  Are there any addons that provide these?

I don't know of any. Perhaps you could make a custom face with gray hair and wrinkles to put on a civilian. That should make him look old.

I've seen zombies done so it can't be that hard to make the face fleshy instead of green. Some cool animations could go with it too.
oldie playmove "hobble"
That sorta thing, and maybe a cane for walking, well maybe even attacking... ;D

Kiddies have been talked about, a lot. I don't think anyone has made them yet. :P

Yeah someone said the other day that if you wanted to do children you'd have to do all of the anims for them.  :o

Yea, the older crowd wouldn't need new animations unless you wanted hobble or something. Kids would need new gun animations, but I think I heard moving and stuff wouldn't need to be changed....

I like a cane weapon. ;D
Your a Russian assualt trooper, you guys go through Lipany and there is no restance, a few police dudes try to fight but they are far away from you. You go towards the town square and an old man walks by, then boom. You're out cold from a cane to the back of the head.... ;D :D

Try the official forums.  I think there is a "searching for addons thread."

Old people would be easy to do, though I don't know if anybody has actually done them.    Children have indeed been discussed many times and certainly until relatively recently had not been done, I suspect partly because of the moral issues involved.    I don't know enough about addon creation to know if making little men (which is essentially what you are doing) is easy or hard.    People have made animals so it must be possible.

The moral question has been solved, intellectually.   War is so ghastly (we forget that, sometimes, playing this game) that whether it is children or adults who suffer is a  bit of a technicality.    Children both fight and suffer in real wars so there is actually no problem about portraying them in OFP.

Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

Thanks all.  Some neat and amusing ideas.  I was planning to use the children and the oldies mainly for background atmosphere - and all mostly dead (or in the process of being made so) so animations would not be an issue - but you set me thinking about the vietcong trick of giving a child a grenade with the pin out and telling to give it to that "nice soldier over there".  I don't think the world is better place for the passage of 30 years or so.

On the subject of creating an old person, at the moment I have no idea how to start.  That may not be a problem, the mission I am working on now is likely to take many many months, everywhere I look I see learning curves I need to go up.  This is just one more.  I will see how the plot goes - I want there to be a sense of outrage at what has been going on and  I have ideas for some other ways of doing that.
