Realistic convoy
« on: 12 Oct 2004, 06:35:36 »
I want to know how to make a perfect convoy that dosent stop when fired apon but instead speeds up. I am also having trouble with the convoy crashing into buildings and getting stuck. I have the convoy running through the mogadishu leave no one behind map so if u have that map youl know the buildings are thickly grouped with just  streets big enough to acomadate at most a tank but not wider. i try to make the convoy of a few humvees and a truck race through the streets under fire whilst firing back with the humvees MGs. the first problem is when the humvees get shot at somtimes they go off path and crash and get stuck on a building. I also have problems getting the convoy to do turns. the fist car corners right but the rest turn too soon and scrape against the wall of the building there trying to turn around. second problem is they dont speed up when being fired upon. they somtimes even slow down.

Is there a script that can fix this problem one that covers all the issues or at least most of them. If not could sombody make one?

I looked in the scripts section and the faq throughly so u guys cant chew me out for not doing so. lol

thank you/ cheers :)

Hallo,

i made a script for that but my BHD project died because of the lack of participation of the members. You can find it under

http://www.modify-the-game.com/OFP/MOG93.html

The mission is named  the convoy

if you are intersted to revive the project you are welcome.

Greetings

Making a good convoy in an urban environment will be very difficult.   This is one area where OFP is not at its best.    Most of the problems you describe are game engine issues and nothing can be done directly.   However, there are things you can do indirectly

- give all the drivers maximum skill

- make sure there are no static objects close to the road (anywhere, not just along the route the convoy will take)

- experiment with different start positions for the vehicles

- use as few waypoints as possible

- experiment with different waypoint positions

Plus all that Kuro's script can do.

If it's just in a straight line, how about setvelocity?
Just in stages of, say, 10, it should look smooth enough?

Another way with wps i found is to have external gunners (those not grouped with the jeeps). Then set the vehicles on careless, and just up the speedMode when they are hit using EHs, while the external gunners are setCombatMode "red" to just pound away at the bloody milita.

That's how i've done it, and it works very well. Sometimes it messes up a bit, but thats normal in OFP. Never get the same results 100% of the time, or even 50%!
