armed humvees! look no more
« on: 20 Mar 2004, 02:35:13 »
If nobody saw anywhere else, Flaber released a newer version of his armed humvee pack in the official forums. it has desert and woodland camos.

ftp://www.gamezone.cz/ofpd/unofaddons2/humvees05v.rar

it's a little buggy but pretty cool.

I was very excited about these and got them ASAP - but they played hell with OFP on my computer.  I finally had to delete them to get OFP to run stable again.

Every time *after* previewing/playing a mission in the editor using these humvees, OFP would CTD with an error about memory mapping some BIS addons.

Not an addon folder issue (size), but something specific to this addon...hopefully a final version is coming soon with the kinks worked out.

What I REALLY want is a woodland hummer with a Mk19, and another with a TOW launcher...all I ever find are desert ones.   :(

Kammac you are either using 1.91 or older version of ofp or you did not add the -nomap command line. The problem has nothing to do with the humvees addon. Get 1.96 from the official forums and add "-nomap" (without the quotes) to the end of the target field. Your target line should look like this:
Quote
"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTBETA.EXE" -nomap
or if you got the release candidate 1.96 patch
Quote
"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE" -nomap

Well, you're half right - I'm using 1.91.

But the issue I described is directly related to that addon, because the issue stops when that addon is removed from my addons folder.  I removed everything but the BIS addons, then added the humvee pack - same thing.

I'm not slamming the pack, if that is why you're a little hostile?  Just stating what happens when I load it.

And there is nothing in the readme that states it won't work with 1.91 - are you saying that is incorrect and it only works on beta releases higher than 1.91?

Maddmatt is right, is has nothing to do with the Humvee pack and everything to do with your OFP version, which you should upgrade pronto. Most addons will cause memory mapping errors if you aren't using 1.92 or higher.

?

Ok.  But since this is the ONLY addon that causes the issue, I think I'll stick with 1.91 until something newer gets beyond RC status.

Literally, I could list all the addons I have that run fine on 1.91 if you want...this is the only one that causes a CTD after previewing.  If it really requires 1.92+ why isn't the RequiredVersion line being used?

I just counted, I've got 50 non-official addons that I cycle through routinely which all run fine...most of them pretty new.

Paranoia? Or just thickheadedness?

You'll experience many problems once you try to combine lots of addons, especially big ones like Tonal.

That's my point - I took out everything but the BIS addons, then put the humvees in again, and I still have the same behavior.

Which is why I originally said "not an addon folder size issue but something specific to this addon".

The issue isn't too many addons or combining whatever - THIS particular addon keeps causing a CTD on my system.

If it requires 1.92 or higher then he should use the requiredversion tag and post it in the readme as well.

RE:Thickheaded comment - whatever.  I simply choose not to beta test OFP for BIS - why you would have a problem with that is beyond me....

And finally, I don't have the tonal addon, never tried it.  Is it good?

Combining large amounts of addons is guaranteed to cause problems unless you use 1.92 or higher, which allow you to use the -nomap command. Without a beta version, any more than a few addons will cause memory errors. With a beta patch, I can use the 550MB FDF Mod with around 1.5GB of user-made addons. Because there is an easy solution to the memory-mapping problem, I don't have much sympathy for people who have errors when they refuse to use a beta (Which generates a seperate .EXE, so you can even use 1.91 if you want to).

The new release candidate 1.96 patch is out, it is no longer beta and replaces the 1.91 exe. The memory map problem is caused by having large or too many addons. Just get the new patch from the official forums and add the -nomap command line and you wont have to worry about memory map errors and we can end this discussion  ;D
