Cannot load Mission - Missing Addon...
« on: 21 Feb 2004, 02:30:57 »
Greetings

I'm not sure if there was never a discussion about this kind of error, i searched two or three forums, even the Avon Lady's FAQ, witout any results.

I made many mission since i started to play OFP a few years ago, and since i started to use addons i can remember about this kind of error. No matter what i do i can't get rid of it.
I make a map, place a BAS Ranger or Blackhawk, some JAM Soldiers or any other addon i can think of and 9 from 10 times i get an error during mission loading process telling me that a random addon i use in that mission couldn't be found. I hit Ok and the game continues running without any problems. In the beginning this was annoying, but i got use of it. Now that i was testing a dedicated server i noticed that in case of such an error the game aborts the mission and returns back to mission selection screen. Most of my missions use addons mostly from BAS, JAM and a few others, so i can't play any of my missions on the dedicated server. I tried a few things to "fix" this issue, like creating a new mission and merge the old with the blank one, maybe the .sqm file got screwed, who knows, but till now i wasn't able to get rid of this issue.

I'm just wondering if this happens just to me or if there's someone else with this problem, and maybe a solution. I would be really glad for any help you can provide.

Thanx in advance

Hi,

I get the exact same problem, apart from the dedicated server problem, this i have never had a problem with...

May i suggest patching OFP or OFP:R as high as you possibly can - i think this will resolve the problem  ;)

Sorry if im no help on this though!

Its a slight bug with Tonal island, its not a problem, just an annoyance.  BAS released a fix to stop it happening, I imagine it's on their website.

I've had similar problems with missions I've downloaded recently (in the last 2 weeks).  If I "unPBO" the mission, then open the mission file from my editor, then save the mission (export to single missions) from the editor it works fine without any error reports.  I've noticed that the mission.sqm file from the original downloaded mission is missing the addons list under the "addons" header at the begining of the file.  But, after I reload it in the editor the editor automatically generates the addon list in the misssion.sqm file.  I've searched everywhere for a sollution to this problem, but to no avail.  I've tried the mod folder management techniques recommended, but I still get the same error until I first "unPBO", load in editor, then resave from the editor (export to single missions).  Anyway, I've not done any multiplayer games since this problem has started, so I do not know if my "re-editing" rigamarole (sp?) would help for multiplayer games, but you might try it.

Thx for your reply guys.

ikarus:
are you sure this is a Tonal island related bug? Cause as i said before i had this bug since the beginning of time (lol), even before installing any BAS addons.

Raptorsaurus:
Exactly what i thought, that's why i tried to create a new mission and merge it with the one i want to fix. When i then save the new mission a new .sqm file is created including a proper addon list.
I never tried in SP, but even if that would fix the problem i wouldn't be of any use to me, since i need to play MP, moreover the missions i have this problem with are made by me and "compiled" by me into a PBO, so i'm pretty sure they have a proper addon list. As i said before, usually i'm not able to create a mission without this error.

Sigh  :'(

Ahh yes my mistake.  When you get the error missing addon BAS_opfor is an bug induced with Tonal.

Dunno if any patches have fixed this or if I'm even on right tracks, but anyhoo...

Sometimes these Missing Addon thingys seem to have something to do with the AddOn dependency coded in the config (requiredAddons)...

Can't remember which way it was but I think the ones with addon dependency go to the Res/AddOns folder and the others in the 'regular' AddOns folder... (or vice versa)
In the official BI forums was something about this a loooooooooooooooooong time ago...

However, I use the 'regular' AddOns folder (or separate mod folders) for all the AddOns I use (despite the directions to put them into Res/AddOns) and have never had any probs...
When used Res/AddOns folder some probs occurred so I figured it would be best to stay in the 'good'ol method'...

I'm using the \AddOn folder too, at the beginning i used the \Res\AddOns folder and i had a few problems more that way so i changed.

This game is so bad coded....sigh
