need a pretty advanced script
« on: 09 Sep 2002, 23:08:35 »
I have a sound converted to ogg and I want to be able to bind it to a key so that whenI activate it it plays during an online match, I have a sound folder created in my user folder but do not know where to get from there.

Most servers don't like it when people do that, actually I know a few that bans you from doing that. The reason they ban you is because everyone has to download that sound file which slows down the sever a lot. I wouldn't recomend doing that.

Alt tab out of the game and start the track with winamp. You don't need the sound file in the mission then, and who cares if you're the only one hearing it ? If you dont have winamp download it for free. Theres a plugin to play ogg files for it...I use it and it works fine. Instant message me and I'll email you the plugin if you cant find it.

Create and ogg and place it in a Users>Sound folder.  It will show on the radio under "Custom".

thanks a lot icarus...that's exactly what he wanted to know.
so far only me and zizleybear knew AND used it with 9 custom sounds, total size ~100kb which wasnt too much for even a big bunch of player to download.
And our sounds were classy, funny and more to it since only we 2 knew how to do it.

About a month ago some like u spread the word or just gave in into some noobs whining and told them how to do it.
Yes, the sound folder under ur user name.
Now every friggin kid has their own crap oggs and they suck + they are TOO BIG !

I was recently in a resistance coop and thought its a custom new mission with a col intro since it had 1mb download.
You wanna know what it was?
Some dummasses 1mb ogg (prbably not even set to low quality=tripples the filesize unecessarily), which played what i would describe as the worst sound ever:
a guy saying
*dum di dum di dumm da da dum didum dada  dumdidum*
for five minutes.

Which was nice.

p.s.NOT!

I tell you, what will happen;

He will move out with his new sounds - it will be very cool, once he plays his sounds and others will be impressed -
then other players will start asking him: "how did you do that?"

Now he will tell them all that stuff - next night/day, they
will meet together, and everybody uses now let's say 30MB
sounds alltogether. Then there will be nothing for a long time,
and finally they will decide, not to use the sounds anymore,
because: playing OFP gives much more fun than loading
other's sounds.

OK, some will still use their sounds, but this is another story.

What you wanna do is: tell them nothing, so we can controll
them.

Erm, this thread certainly took a weird turn.

It is not very cool to try and hog all the cool stuff that you can do with OFP, not very cool at all.

On the other hand, it's not very cool to be forced to d/l 30MB of sounds.

But, I think Chris Death is right. At first, the n00bs will get all worked up over this and put all sorts of things in that folder.
Then they will see that it's not fun to d/l 30MB of unnecessary stuff before being able to play a mission, and hopefully most of them will delete the surplus sounds.

If they don't, the host always has the ability to kick them, right?

So, as this thread has been solved, could the original author please solve it.

Oh come now Ktotte, you were the one who started whinging about the public release of Oxygen, because you wanted it to remain for the select few who were permitted by BIS.

Quite frankly is disgusting wanting to keep knowledge to yourselves.  If someone wants access to a program for legitimate reason then they should be able to use it.  If they want to know how to use custom sounds during a mission someone should tell them how to do it.  It should be upto THEM to decide if they want to use them.

Actually, I never said that Oxygen should not be released to everyone. I did say that maybe it would be for the best if it was not released.
My concerns had nothing to do with Oxygen, the tool, the software, O2, da thing.
When people started talking about how they should get access to the Breathe boards on the Flashpoint1985 forums I objected. Simply because those boards are reserved for people in the Breathe program.

Now, that issue is resolved thanks to the work of denoir. There will be an Oxygen FAQ board for all the newcomers.
Further info on that can be found here.
I am actually in charge of that FAQ, as explained in the thread I just linked to.

Again, I never said that only ModMakers should get access to Oxygen. And again, I did say that maybe it was for the best if it wasn't released.

Now, with that cleared up, and even though I am not a moderator on this particular board, I would kindly ask all of you to stop posting here.
Except Davies1, who should solve this thread since his question has been answered.

Cheers, KTottE.

Whew... it's getting a little hot in here huh?

The last thing we need is the bloody oxygen debate starting up again... ::)

Davies1, if you feel your question hasn't been answered, I invite you to repost it.
