Transportable .50 or .30 cal
« on: 22 Jul 2003, 23:46:46 »
An idea popped into my head the other day to have a transportable .50 or maybe .30 caliber  machine gun. I thought perhaps it could be carried similarly to a LAW (strapped to the soldier), and set down when you wanted to use it or something to that effect.
I am not an addon-maker by any means, this is just an idea I had. I have searched everywhere trying to find something like this, but I haven't been able to find anything. If you know where I could d/l an addon of this kind, I would very much appreciate it if you could PM me or post it here. Thanks,

As it happens it can be done.  I think WW2EC made one, didn't release it to my knowledge but it'll be in the MOD....to make one would require new animations which only the very best can do well at present (atleast for soldier models) and only the very best are seemingly unindated with jobs right now...Also is it actually used? I guess that the 30.cal was during WW2 (there is a portible 30.cal in some WW2 pack i had, think it was the WW2EC 101st, but it was just used like the M60)....But is a portible 50.cal in service with any major army at the moment? i say major because i don't think many people will want to make a pack of Morocon soldiers just for that...but i'll have a look into it for ya

The Invasion 1944 demo has Mg42 and M1919 models ;D(Both infantry-carried and fixed), so you can use a script to deploy a machinegun. Of course, the demo is about 50 MBs :o, so it might not be worth it.

If you want something smaller, there's a fixed M60 at http://ofp.info/talesofwar/ that you could script for deployment by M60-gunners. But I think the addon is for 1.75+ :-\.

If you want, I could make a deployment script 8).

Oh, and the idea of a .50 cal carried by an individual is a bit absurd, cuz the gun weighs 84 pounds and the tripod weighs 44 :wow: (fas.org).

The m60 is not a transportable 30.cal at all......it fires the 7.62mm round if i'm thinking straight after all that tequilla.....the 50.cal rifle your thinking of was probably the barret "big fifty".  Anti material sniping rifle which has been made numerous times with varying degrees of success in OFP...check out the addons depot here or at ofp.gamezone.cz and see if ya can find it.

Wasn't Kegety's making a transportable .50?
I saw some screenshots somewhere, one soldier carrying the gun and another carrying a tripod.
Could have been for a mod.. not sure??

Also, I think the ADF mod are still making a s-70 (aussie blackhawk) with a removeable MAG58, in the event of the chopper going down you can take the door gun off.

The FDF mod has movable heavy MGs, they break down into the gun and tripod that can then be picked up and moved.

They can be carried, the Paras carried their .50s halfway accross the island during the Falklands war (waits for KevBaz or Ash to post details of which island and battle  ;)).
Yes they are heavy and awkward to carry they can be broken down and carried by a couple of people, your not going to see a guy moving a .50 by just picking it up and running off with it  :P

*Picks up an M82A1 .50 cal rifle*

It's not that hard ;)

Though I know what you mean.

the Royal Marines used transportable 50 cal's in Iraq... a recent documentary on the Arcj Royal (our navy's flagship / aircraft carrier) showed Royal Marines practising on deck with assult rifles but also 50 cal's with telescopic sights on... kinda cool... and the 50 cals arnt standing up like BIS... they are at half the height and the gunner sits behind it....

Yea someone sould make a .50cal with a short stand. I've seen some MGs with short stands but dont like the animation used on the gunner. They should use the crouch pistol stance
