I have a dumb question...
« on: 09 Jul 2003, 04:31:33 »
First, thank you to the people who helped me out before and i hope that you can help again.  Now to my question.  How do i get a bunch of different units/vehicles riled up and come looking for me and if they cant find me then they just go back to there defensive position.  I dont want them to follow waypoints though, i just want them to patrol a certain area, but it is pretty big.  I kind of want a goto and then another goto.  I hope i havent made this more complicated than it is.  If i can get specific instructions it would be great cause i am kinda dumb.  Thanks for your time.

Also, i dont want the enemy to "just know" that i am there.  Maybe they hear a shot off in the distance or something.  Lets say i shoot at a BMP with my M16 and that upsets him and he patrols, not like i enter a trigger and he knows i am there and comes directly to me and kills me.  Just looking for some variety.  Thanks for your time.

Try using the Guard waypoint options.

Now, Guard causes almost the same thing, if you are spotted, the whole group, will go to your last position to kill you, but if they don't see you after a minute, they return to there guard waypoint. They usually search a little too at your last location.

EDIT
After rereading it here, I was wrong about Sentry.
Guard should do exactly what you want.

Would i have to use a switch trigger.  The reason i ask that is because i want the enemy to be at a makeshift base/assembly area, and receive a call that enemy has been spotted.  The more i think about all this the more ideas i come up with and want to add on.  Thanks

A Guard waypoint never ends.
So the unit or group will stay at it.
They will only move when you are spotted.

Extra note, the AI will determine out of all units set to guard which is closer, and better set to take out the enemy, and send them. If your not found, they just return to the guard waypoint, and wait to be called again.

heya, DDT  ;) You could also try to unpack one of the original BIS missions,
just to get a grip on how they did all this....  I think there's a single player mission called... well, one of those "lone wolf sniper" -style missions in the single missions folder.  ::) :)
It's about you taking out some guards at a base. They're patrolling, and when the alarm bell is on they all come rushing towards your last know spot (as far as I remember)...

Use the "DePBO" tool to decompress the mission, and then start reading all the scripts & load the unpacked mission in the editor to see how it was made!  :D :-*

That's the best way to get into editing, my man!
