Enemy ai stops after search and destroy wp?
« on: 25 May 2003, 02:12:10 »
The enemy, after a little running around, seems to find a place and chill, waiting for someone to come up on them.  Is there a way to make them keep searching?  I think I remember seeing something somewhere about this, but I searched the forum and faq and didn't see anything.  Something about cycling? But then, how do I make it cycle the last 2 wp's rather than all of them?

Is quite simple.

Place the "cycle" waypoint near the waypoint from where you want your soldiers to begin the cycle. The game automaticaly assumes the nearest waypoint of the "cycle" type waypoint to be the begining.

There's also 'synchronization' to help you handle with waypoints.
If you have more doubts about waypoint combinations, there are a few good tutorials at the Editors Depot! ;)

You can put a cycle waypoint next to a seek and destroy waypoint if you want them to seek and destroy for ever.

I put cycle wp practically on top of the s&d wp, but some ai still find the need to lay down somewhere random and wait.  I have them on combat, engage at will, etc.  Don't know what the deal is.

I believe that you have to synchronize the two waypoints by dragging the blue line from one waypoint to the other in order to get the unit to cycle through the waypoints. I know that it works for "Move" waypoints as I have had units patrol the perimeter of a base when the "Cycle" and the "Move" waypoints were not that close together and by using the "Synch" feature I was able to get them patrolling continuously. If the "Cycle" waypoint works by proximity only without the synch line that would be news to me.

They are lying down because you have them on "combat".    Use "aware" for patrols if they know that the enemy is around, and "safe" if they don't.   Remember that AI units tend to pause at waypoints anyway, (so you may get a pause every time they cycle) and sometimes, well, they do just pause because they feel like it.

Wadman, the cycle waypoint does work by proximity - I've never been unlucky enough to need to do any synchronising.  There may be a limit on the distance though - I have always put them very close together.
