A simple Question
« on: 07 May 2003, 02:57:41 »
Hi
Im a newbie at this and need some help
after reading the waypoint and trigger topic i wanted to create a series of patrols that moved to a search and destroy waypoint when they detected the enemy
but im unsure on the detected by west and east conditions

Can someone please explain this and does the "search and destroy" mean that the patrol will search everywhere?

Hallo,

"Search and destroy" means the unit(s) seach in a resonable radius around the waypoint (of course this is bigger for helis than for infantry). If they find a enemy they will attack.

Could you please descripe your idea more clearly: do you have one or several patrols ? Do you want to engage all the enemy when one of them detect one. Or do you have a reaction force ?

Greetings
Kuro

hi Kuro

ok imagine i have a heap of 4 man patrols walking around on cycled waypoint but synchronized to a trigger so that when they detect the incoming west presence they search for them.

what im unsure of is what the "detected by west/east" triggers mean and how to use them

p.s does the detected by east/west triggers mean that as soon a unit walks into that trigger radius, it is activated or only when an enemy units sees them?

The trigger would go off whenever any unit from the respected side was detected inside the trigger by the enemy....

Just West/East present trigger would go off whenever a unit from the  appropriate side stepped into the trigger ;)

Seek and Destroy means that the group will run around a certain area for a certain time.     The area (and possibly the time) are determined by the type of units:   choppers search a bigger area than infantry.

After a while they will get bored and stop, so you need a cycle waypoint as well if you want them to do it for ever.

I recommend you have switch some of your groups into guard waypoints rather than S&K.

I also very strongly[/i] recommend that you playtest, playtest and playtest until you get the result you want.    Try it out from different points of view.    Check this tutorial for a few tips.

What does the guard waypoint do to the behaviour of the enemy?

A group on a guard waypoint will mostly just stand there until the enemy are detected anywhere on the map.   Then they will head for the trouble.    If there are many guard groups then the game will decide which guard groups to send.

The point is that when your seek and destroy loons find the enemy, help will immediately be on its way.    Alternatively you could give all the S&D groups another switch trigger to switch them from S&D/cycle into guard when the enemy is detected.
