I hear this effects quite a few people...
« on: 30 Apr 2003, 22:55:05 »
Missions say they require addons that where never saved or even opened while that mission was being made. As a result of this some missions seem to require everyone addon in my addons folder to work even if it doesnt use any.

This means I can't submit my missions to a website and i cant delete any crappy addons from my folder because my missions need them.

Any help would be great.

You can always open the mission.sqm file and manually delete any extraneous addons before exporting your mission..

Just make sure you hit all the places addons are mentioned..

there are two spots at the beginning if I'm not mistaken, as well as one for the intro and one for the outro....

I'm really not too sure on what causes the problem..  maybe someone else does.. but that's one fix I know works when I have those weird addon problems ;)

Well, no map making master am I....but I have also had the same problem, mostly when i put an addon on a map, then after awhile, think better of it and delete it.  This, is of course, usually after I have saved it a million times, so tha addon still shows in the sqm file.  Here is what I have found to fix it.

Open the map in the editor
put a box around EVERYTHING you placed on the map
hit cntrl X to cut everything
close the editor
open the editor to the island you want your map to take place on
find the correct placement for a "paste"
hit cntrl V to paste everything you cut from the previos map
(be sure to have a reference point for your mouse when cutting, like a numbered hilltop, it make pasting it all back much easier)
now, save the mission as PASTE or something simple, alt/tab out, go to your missions folder and open the sqm file, all the "ghost addons" should no longer be present
then simply delete the map pbo from the MPMissions or Missions folder, depending on what kind of map it was, copy all the sqs files from the original map folder, making sure to leave the mission sqm file, and put them in the new pasted map folder.  Delete the original folder, go back in editor and save map again, export it, and give it a whirl.

Not to sound like a sneak or anything.......but i have also used this method when placing maps on the server that has a ghost addon, these are other ppls maps, but i never change their map in any way, shape or form, I only do it if there is an addon problem on our server.

I find that alot of ppl get this problem on my missions.
Now the thing is, lately its been saying addons are missing, that I don't even have.
Ex, A friend beta testing one of my missiosn in the beta testing forum, told me that when he tryed to play it, it was missing some trike addon. Now, I never used it in the mission, and whats more, I never had it.
So Its a VERY annoyoing problem, that I hope someone can properly solve.

Obviously I didn't make it clear enough.
I do that all the time, usually it works.
But, lately it hasn't, and like I said, its been adding addons I DON'T have.

Yep, there have been some bizarre stories surfacing in the beta forums.     OFP claiming it's missing an island, which is obviously bit bizarre.    It's either a bug or some kind of deep seated addon conflict.... I don't think there is much you can do but quite often simply clicking on OK does the trick.

It does mean however, that authors must be religious about cleaning out the mission.sqm.   Which of course they should be anyway.

Hate to sound stupid but how do you open the .sqm file? All i see is the .Noe, .Abel or whatever.

thanks for the response though, at least now i know that fixing it's possible.

I mean where are they, obviously i can open them [double clicking is not beyond me]. and does just deleting whatever addons from those lists of weapons and vehicles work or do you have to do the copy and paste thing aswell?

The mission.sqm file is in a folder called mymission.Abel or something.    You can open the file with text editor like Notepad, though sometimes you seem to need Wordpad.

Once its open find the lists of addons at the beginning and also for the Intro and Outro sections.    Delete all the addons.  Save and close the file.

Now go back to the Mission Editor.   Open and save the mission.

If you want, return to the mission.sqm.     The list of addons will now be correct.

For some reason all the mission files came up as .pbos, i just restarted the computer and they were files i could go into, which is where the mission file and all the scripts and stuff is.
So thanks for the help people, really appreciate it.

Whenever you make a new map, it is saved in your users folder

(C:\Program Files\Codemasters\OperationFlashpoint\Users\Monoloth\missions

This folder is where you place your description.ext, init.sqs, etc for your mission.  Inside the folder named after your mission are all the things you have for that mission, sounds, scripts, etc, PLUS the mission.sqm, it will simply be called mission.  Open it with wordpad, (rightclick on it, open, if it asks what to use to open it select wordpad)

At the top will be the listing of the addons you currently haveon that map, thisis where you will either be able to delete the incorrect ones, or use the method I mentioned in my earlier post.  My experience with deleting the addons from the mission.sqm is that i tend to miss them farther down in the file, especially if its a building, or a type of soldier.  Then I end up right back where i started, and mad about it as well.  That is why I prefer tyhe method I listed earlier, it seems to be a guaranteed method so far, and believe me, i have made sop many mistakes on maps that i have done it repeatedly.
DOH!!!!!!!! :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X  I just scrolled down and saw where you said you had found the correct files.......now I feel like a total n00b.....plz dont call me a llama......
