WAYPOINT TROUBLE
« on: 20 Apr 2003, 22:46:07 »
Right, in a mission me and two other guys (im in charge) are patrolling. As the mission is for someone else i want on of those yellow marker boxes saying MOVE or whatever to come up on the screen.

Firstly it may be so simple but what am i missing here?

Secondly, can you customize the text that appears next to the box?

hi there

In the Waypoint edit box there is a box called description,
here you can enter the text you want the yellow box to have

also there are three options near the bottom of this box

NEVER SHOW
SHOW IN CADET MODE
ALWAYS SHOW

this is the yellow boxes, I think it is pretty obvious which is which  ;D

that should answer your questions

I'm afraid, MadFred, that you're partly wrong.   (A rare thing, readers.)   You are totally right about the description part and making the text appear.   However, the show, never show etc part is to do with whether the waypoint will show as black marks on the map.   It is nothing to do with yellow boxes.

If you want to see yellow boxes play in Cadet mode.  You can't change thereto in the Editor, so if you're not getting your yellow box fix go back to the main menu, select single missions and choose Cadet.  You don't actually have to start a mission (I think).   Go back to the Editor and it will be yellow box city.   Providing there are waypoints there for you to see of course.

Remember that it is very poor mission design to make things happen at player waypoints.    Lots of people only play in Veteran mode and the mission must work for them too.   Waypoints should be just a Brucie bonus for Cadets.

To take this one step further. If you want to see your waypoints in the editor you always have to start a single player mission before going into editor mode, regardless if you're already in cadet mode or not. I hope they fix this next time around.

No, the mission editor just picks up whichever mode - Cadet or Veteran - you happen to be in at the time.   I think.

The editor will be in either cadet or veteran mode, depending on whether you've got it set to basic or advanced...

Now as everyone has it set to advanced (its damn hard to get anything done in basic mode ;)), it automatically defaults to veteran mode.

This is why you can't see your waypoints if you go straight into the editor...
