respawn help needed

i have one human player per squad of 12 (the other 11 squadies being AI ofcourse). what i want to add is when the human player dies he can respawn as the next highest ranking squad member which is controlled until that point by AI.  (just like its done in the Everon co-op 2-5 mission.
