Getting in Helo
« on: 21 Feb 2003, 04:56:12 »
Hello all,
first time here and my first question ranks me as a goon but here it is. I have set up a recue mission flying a Blackhawk helo, taking with me a gunner and medic now when I get to my pick up point how on earth do I make the "casualties" get in the helicopter? It would be good if I could get the wounded to at least sit down as well.

I have alot of tutorials on mission editing and scripting and have to admit to being a little confused and over whelmed. Nothing I seem to do is right which bugs me a little.
OPF is such a wonderful game and to think when I first bought it I did'nt like it. Thankfully I've grown up. Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you.

Welcome to the Forums, Eccles.

I know just what you mean about being a little overwhelmed ....it happened to us all.    It takes a while to absorb enough information really to get going.

You've picked an unfortunate one because helicopters are notorious for being awkward.     However, try this:-

  • Give your chopper a name, lets say chopper1
  • Create an invisible H where you want the chopper to land
  • Give the chopper a LOAD waypoint on top of the H
  • In the in on activation field of the waypoint write

         chopper1 land[/i] "land"

  • Give the casualties a GET IN waypoint
  • Synchro (F5) the two waypoints

I hope that works, no doubt somebody will be along to correct any errors.     Check the syntax of the land command in the command reference guide in the editor depot.

If you want your loons to do animations learn the switchmove and playmove commands and look at the list of animations in Tutorials - References - Unofficial command ref guide

We've recently reorganised the tutorials in an effort to make things less confusing.      If you haven't already had a look I would recommed you go to Tutorials - Getting Started - First Steps and look at snYpir's OFPEC Guide:  Making Missions and my own Macguba's guide to mission editing for beginners (he said modestly), both of which were written with a view to making everything clearer.      There is also a Tutorial Mission which you can pull apart, borrow files from etc.

There's a couple of specific tutes on helicopters too, in Enhancing you misson I think.

IÂ'm a noob at the chopper area. Both to fly them and to work with them. Except for the AH-1, I rock on flying that chopper ;D. I just wanna say this though cause I always say it:

Thanks Macguba,
will try everything, dont be surprised if I ask more "newbie" questions. Though not a stranger to mission building having used mission eds in Janes F15, F18, Flanker2.0 and Falcon4. OPF is the most interesting and I love flying helicopters so really getting the best of both worlds.

I have most of the tutorials, it has just got to sink in. Be very very quiet Eccles is studying!

Thanks again, cheers.

Glad to help Eccles .... ask as many questions as you like.       All we ask is that you check the Editors Depot and Search the FAQ and the Forum before you post.

Hello macguba,
your advice worked like a charm, ahem  by looking carefully around the site found a heap of information on helicopter usage in the game. Very helpful.

Will take note and be a little more diligent in the future, probably on my seventh cup of coffee for the day when I posted. There just are'nt enough hours in the day!

                            Cheers
