Do AI units have to be grouped to notice you?
« on: 05 Feb 2003, 00:26:37 »
When youre paired with someone, and you identify an enemy unit, you say something like "11 o Clock, T80, 200", but you dont when youre by yourself.

So, with the KnowsAbout command for example, do enemy units have to be paired or grouped to 'KnowAbout' you, or can a lone watchman take note as well?

The situation is, i have this group at a guard waypoint, so if any other unit sees an enemy, the group at the guard waypoint will go hunt them. Can just one guy alert the group at the guard waypoint to the enemys presence, or does he have to be grouped with someone so the game can say internally "12 o Clock, Black Op, 100"?

Ya one guy can detect. They are more effective in groups but they can detect them.

Yeah, one guy is enough.    Groups at a Guard waypoint know if anybody anywhere on the map detects the enemy.    The game AI decides which guard Group(s) should respond to a particular spotting of the enemy.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

Generally, to get the "12 o Clock, Black Op, 100" effect units do have to be grouped.

However guard waypoints work slightly differently...
The guarding units will know you're in the area (and will move towards you), but they're not aware of your exact position as other units in the group getting the "12 o Clock, Black Op, 100" are.

This can be used to your advantage though, it's always a good idea to group static M2 machineguns guarding a site, so they can 'pool' their knowsabout knowledge ;)

I'd say a guard trigger/waypoint will work fine in that situation though...

If you have cadet mode, all objects there are detected. ItÂ's just that, why call "black op, 12 Oclock" when you are alone?
