EDITING, Way Points & Triggers
« on: 27 Jan 2003, 23:44:28 »
OK, I have a patrol patroling, using way points and the last waypoint is a cycle.  To start them patroling all the time, I have a trigger and this is set on switch, on activation west present and once(Also tried repeatedly).  When I dont use the trigger they patrol round and they keep patroling.  As soon as i put the trigger they don't patrol round and round the cycle way point don't work?

Can some one :help: please.  Thanks

Yer patrol is patrolling (doubtless drinking pAtroleum while walking  ::) ), and when YOU hit a trigger,
the patrol dont patrol anymore, but YOU want them to patrol again?!

*cough*

sorry, m8  :P ;D just didn't really get the probby! uuum, got anymore info to share  ??? :D

If they detect you then they're SUPPOSED to stop patrolling & start attacking... YOU!  :o

Right ???

1. I have a patrol.
2. I have five waypoints, the last one being a CYCLE waypoint.
3. The patrol is patroling form waypoint to waypoint and it hit the CYCLE waypoint, it start the patrol all over.
4. I then decide I want the patrol to start patroling on activation of a Trigger
5. My trigger has the following attributes: Name; trig1, Type; Switch, On Activation; West Present.
6. Now it wont do whats in point 3.

Is that any clearer ???

What about

grp lockWP true

then on activation on the trigger, turn it to false?

That way they'll start following their waypoints on activation of the trigger.

Not being funny but I am english, if I could explain my problem in Danish :hmm: I would!!!

All I want to do, is for my patrol to start patroling on activation of a trigger and for this patrol keep patroling using the the waypoints endlessly, untill the missions ends or they die.

All its doing, the patrol is only going round once and ends at at the last waypoint which is a cycle waypoint. well I want them to keep going round.

I can not explain this any clearer :P

 :D but then you ARE funny!  8) ;D ( j/k  :-* ;) )

ok. you want the group to patrol an area.
Now, whether they start patrolling right away or via some trigger doesn't matter (right here);
all we wanna know for now is how to get the morons to frikkin' CYCLE, right?!  :D

right then. Question:

Could it be that anything (an object, bush, building) is in the way so that the group cannot
complete the route and thus don't reach the cycle WP  ???

if so, move the route!  ::) :)

If you put the center of the CYCLE waypoint directly upon the grpLeader, he will cycle
and with him his group of morons  :)

[mod.]

 :o oh, and to get them to hold till yer trigger fires, do this (init field of grp leader) :

morons = units group this; "_x stop true" foreach Morons  :)

This will make them hold right from start of mission! Then your trigger could go :

"_x stop false" foreach morons

Another way is the "lockWP" spell (also t/f )

AH ;D, we have touch a nerve, like you did me.  OK :cheers:, thanks for your input.

My patrol in a desert area, and don't have any obstacles.  I tried it without a trigger and it works fine.  only when I use the trigger it don't work. It also does the same to a heli patrol using four waypoints, again the last waypoint is a cycle waypoint and yes it almost on top of the first waypoint to create the link.

So there ::) and sorry if you didn't like my latest reply.  I don't like to be patronised, as specialy when I have a problem.  I am fairly new at this, love the game and would like to know more about it.

Thanks

You could even use a script for the patrolling group's path. You could use Game Logics as the points for the waypoints... and say something like this in an .sqs file:

Code: [Select]

;patroltroute.sqs

_patrol = _this select 0
_logic1 = _this select 1
_logic2 = _this select 2
_logic3 = _this select 3
_logic4 = _this select 4
_logic5 = _this select 5

#Start
?ptrlstart: goto "Loop1"
;ptrlstart is the name of the variable that is activated by
;your trigger. Put ptrlstart = true in the activation field of
;your trigger.
goto "Start"

#Loop1
PatrolGroup1 = Count Units Group _patrol

;PatrolGroup1 setbehaviour "Comabt"
;PatrolGroup1 setcombatmode "RED"
;remove the ';' marks for the setbehaviour and
;setcombatmode lines if you want the group set that way.
PatrolGroup1 commandmove getpos _logic1

~10
;time depends on the distance of the patrol area.
PatrolGroup1 commandmove getpos _logic2

~10
PatrolGroup1 commandmove getpos _logic3

~10
PatrolGroup1 commandmove getpos _logic4

~10
PatrolGroup1 commandmove getpos _logic4

;loops endlessly until PatrolGroup1 is dead. Below command
;might give you and an error because it is a global variable
?(!alive PatrolGroup1): exit
goto "Loop1"

you could try that. I haven't tested it yet, but it might work. :P

EDIT: Oops! Forgot to tell u how to exec it. Put the following in the init of the patrol group's leader or the player's init:

[patrol,logic1,logic2,logic3,logic4,logic5] exec "patrolroute.sqs"

example

[bob,g1,g2,g3,g4,g5] exec "patrolgroup.sqs"

Dutch, I think I understand your problem.

Try this: Put a HOLD waypoint as the first WP for the patrolling squad, and sync your trigger with it. Next make the cycle WP be near the first MOVE WP.

What this should do is make the squad stand around at the HOLD WP until the trigger is activated, then start patroling the MOVE WP's.

Let us know if this works!! 8)
