Mine clearing hardware
« on: 24 Aug 2002, 04:48:14 »
Anone know if this has been thought of?

IMO this is a rather neglected aspect of the game.
Would be good to see some flail or plough versions of the 113, or the Israeli TWMP mounted on the Abrams.

A script for simulating that "explosive mine blasting tube" thing would be nice too...
Hmmm... hope someone knows what I'm talking about...

erm, by explosive mine blasting tube, do you mean the roller hanging on the chain of the m1a1 mine plow?

or are you talking about the harpoon type weapon that fires out a weight attached to a line of det-cord, that blows out every mine within 30 feet of the cord?

i think a mineweeping tank would be VERY easy to make, just depbo teh m1, and construct a plow, so i dont know why people refuse to make something like this, yet theres about 50 different versions of m113, like the "brown camo'd m113 with dark splotched" vs. the "brown m113 with light splotches" how lame is that.  ::)

Yes, the det-cord gizmo, that's it. Would probably need a vehicle to go with it, i guess... What platform can/is it (be) mounted on?

As people are going on making all kinds of fortifications and setpos stuff (That surely is intended to go with a fine cocktail of mines), it would with the current lineup of hardware be impossible to breach those fortified lines...

Perhaps, engineers with bangalores could work as well (Script?).

I think i've got about 20 different 113's (APC, AA and even a nuclear bunker version). About time i cleaned out the Addon folder...

well doing the job with scripts would be EXTREMELY simple, well, relatively.

youd just need to check if the mine"s damage is greater than 0, than set it to 1.

Its called a MICLIC. It is a rocket launched mineclearing charge launcher from a trailer carried on an m113 or a turretless M60 Chassis with either a riller of Plow on the front.
The 113 carries 1 MICLIC and the M60 Carries 2. :)

Too bad the mine sweeper thing wouldnt really serve any real porpuse because the game lets you see the mines. Too bad, sounded cool. Maybe really cool to play around with though.

not necessarily true.  if you wanna hide your mines, put the mines half a meter underground, theyll still acitvate whena  tank drives near/over it.

another thing the mineclearer will be a necessity for, in ofp, is clearing UNPASSABLE barricades.  it is very easy to make an unpassible barricade in ofp, by using the wire (steel tank spike and rolled barbed wire) object, and a line of mines to cover the gaps, and support it with a covered mg nest in an enfilade position.  any engineers would not be able to take outt eh mines, cuz of the mg, and tanks would find it impossible to get thru, since the mines are impassible.

with mine clearing hardware, itd be much easier to clear it all out.

ah yes, razor pointed ot the right name for it, MICLIC.  i bet those things would be really useful in clearing out a defilade and/o bunker. (in real life i mean)
basically, teh MICLIC is a "Bangalore Torpedo" on a rope.

Question is, wouldn't the plough, according to the OFP game engine be a part of the vehicle model and therefore destroy the vehicle if it provoked mine detonation?
Or would it be possible to let the plough be "indestructible"? Also there might be some extra coding needed to render the clearing vehicle "immune" to proximity blast damage from the detonating mines...

On a side note, i saw a documentory on new mine clearing innovations (Same place i saw the MICLIC) where there was an Armored Engineer Vehicle that, as it was clearing it's way through a minefield, deployed "flags" on the way, so as to mark a safe passage for the oncoming vehicles.
Anyone know what i'm talking about, or what it's called?

yeah, thatd also be easy to simulate, you could give the mine clearer operator an action, check for mines, and for any mine within lets say 25 meters, a "danger" object would be camcreated, for ground engineers to disarm them, or for them to be blown up with a miclic.

and i do think its possible to give the plow a lot of health (note how the tank barrel can only take one hit, while the front armor can take 2 or 3 hits before being destroyed, if you gave the tank plow enuff armor value, its be indestructable, but would still get destroyed after a few mines (which is pretty realistic) the only prolem is that the mine plow would make the tank very indestructable to enemy tanks, but this shouldnt be a problem cuz youd never deploy a minesweeper ina  combat zone...
