Laser/radio "beacons"?

I'm not sure if such a script/addon already exists, but what I'm looking to do is this:

I want to create a "beacon" item that can be placed in an area by an infantry soldier, then once the soldier has gotten safely away he can "activate" the beacon which will work like the laser designator (i.e. planes and helos can target it and fire on it). Ideally it'd be used like a satchel charge, except instead of being "set off" it'd be "turned on".

Any hints about how to go about this? (Or, if it already exists, where I can get the script/addon)?
