CPP To Bin with Vista
« on: 31 Dec 2007, 04:13:56 »
Evening,

Couldn't find my answer via search and I think this is the right board to put this question in. (If not my apologies)

I recently dusted off my copy of OFP today and decided to re-install some of my favorite mods (after my Hard Drive Crashed four weeks ago, losing my collection of almost 6 gb of mods and addons). I installed FFUR and decided to give it a change using BLEED and other British Military addons.

Funny thing happened when I attempted to use the CPP To Bin, like always it got through the whole CPP file but I couldn't find my new BIN file for the mod anywhere, I used the Search function with no avail.

My question is where is the BIN file stored on Vista? with XP I know it created a BIN file within the Editable folder of FFUR but with Vista, the BIN file seems to disappear.

If anyone can answer the question it would be a great help.

Thanks.

No idea about Vista in particular, but, can you not just do a search in windows for all files called config.bin?

I know a little about a lot, and a lot about a little.

IM so utterly drunk so this may make no sense what so ever!

2 years since I was here, so nostalgic in a nice way!!!! :D (And 4 years since OFP2 was due to release in 2006  :banghead:)

FIRSTLY, THIS WILL NOT WORK ON VIRUS VISTA 64 BIT EDITION
(it will but I cant help a man that treats his PC with such disrespect and brutality)

ATTEMPT 1: Hidden files
Make sure you are able to see hidden and system files
In any explorer window
Organise > Folder And Search Options > View (show hidden & system files etc)
THEN!!
In windows search do advanced search and include system files.
If you're not sure of the name, try searching for "*.bin" without the quotes
ATTEMPT 2: UAC
Make sure the UAC isn't causing grief

Log in as "Administrator", not "Comm with administrator privileges", but full blown, no shizz, triple barrel shotgun, leg of lamb to the head, witty yet time wasting exaggeration, doesn't cluck around, Administrator

Make sure the account is enabled
Start > (right click) computer > manage > local users and groups > users > (right click) Administrator > Properties > (uncheck) Account is disabled
Log off, if it doesn't appear ctrl+alt+del twice and you should be able to log in by entering the username (might need to do the hidden files thing again for this account)

ATTEMPT 3: Windows Destroyer
Failing that!!! Destroy / reprogram / turn off windows defender, in the panel of controls at the bottom, and again in the bottom of the settings page on windows defender.

ATTEMPT 4: Anti Vista rant
Failing THAT, upgrade to windows XP professional

ATTEMPT 5: Suicidal rant (recommended)
FAILING THAT!!!! Brutally bash your head against a wall until life becomes a blur of colours and you sink into a permanent state of quivering ecstasy.
