bad pixel format for a .paa file
« on: 07 Dec 2007, 09:53:08 »
hello ofpec. i am discovering the pleasures of working with cut resources for the first time and a making some progress, however one issue has me stumped.
i have a picture file that i'm trying to use in a cutrsc that i've created in photoshop, set the alpha channel correctly with the correct mask and then saved it as a tga file. i then imported it to texview and saved it as a .paa. all well and good. however, when i try to run the cutscene, the game crashes to desktop with the error message: texture has bad pixel format (VRAM). when i have looked at other people's successful attempts, i have discovered that they are all set to DXT1 in texview, but my image defaults to DXT5. is this where the problem lies? if so, everytime i try to save it as DXT1, it reverts back to DXT5 on saving.  :dunno:
can anyone help plz? thx.

tell a lie, i'm still stumped. thought i'd found the answer, but i aint.

Try using the origianl TexView for OFP only? It didn't have any DX options...

thx for this m8. - any idea what was wrong with it? are you using the original texview program to convert the file? only i need to know, coz i'll need to change the pixel dimnensions to 256x256. plus i wouldn't mind finding out what i was doing wrong before in case i want to try it again in future. i'm getting an error message loading this file which is attached. but then it shows the image fine on screen after the error. help plz.  ???

original texview is here (if in doubt, search ;) )

i have no idea what went wrong. i simply followed the steps i usually do to create the paa - using the original texview - and voila... transparent paa.
