Difference between paa and pac?
« on: 03 Dec 2005, 01:01:53 »
I'm not new to ofp, but modelling was never my thing, so I'm walking in blind in this part of the forum.. But I've always wondered what the difference between the two textures are?

Also, I'm trying to convert some of my own gfx to logo's I want to use on some of the already existing soldiers (like LSR, BAS, etc.) using setObjectTexture - but don't know exactly how to go about it.

I need transparency on those logos.

PS! I don't have photoshop, but I have a fairly nice converting tool - XnView - hope that's sufficient.

Have you tried GIMP, the GNU Image Manipulation Program? It is free.

From TexView readme:
Quote
PAA/PAC ( 12 bit RGB + 4 bit alpha channer / 8 bit grayscale + 8 bit alpha channel / 16 bit DTX DirectX compressed texture format with optional 1 bit alpha channel)

I bet you already read that... I know, it doesn't help much. That's why I digged some more info for you:

A friendly chap has written a Short info about using paa/pac

See also his signature for a link to his website, there you can find more tutorials.

Just to make sure, have you read the sticky topic from this forum board:

Oxygen: Tools and Resources

There you can find a list of resources, including ones that concern texturing. I can see also a tutorial about setObjectTexture. I haven't checked what it has inside, but you need to look at that I guess...

Thanks for the feedback, baddo. But I did try to get hold of png2pac, but I wasn't allowed. You know of a site where I can get it?

You mean where you can get PAATool, which is the newer version of that tool.

For example from here:

paatool11.rar

or from here:

paatool11.zip

The link I gave you to the png2pac thread was just for reference because they are discussing matters concerning PAATool in that thread.
