this is a multiplayer mission where there is a spetznaz sniper trapped in montignac at the end of the war. he has to be rescued by fellow agents or hunted down by the resistance. you can play as the sniper, spetznaz agents or a guerrila dressed as a civilian armed with just grenades. there will be other civilians around just to make things harder. you will need select this's civilian pack. the only problem i have is how to change the sniper's position for each game. i can't use the thing which changes the position randomly because he could end up in the middle of the street which is full of ai soldiers and i ccan't keep him where he is (above the pub at the moment) because the resistance agent will find him if they've played before. i've thought about giving him hostages so the agent cant use his grenades but i dont know if that'll work. pleaz give ideas

Try inserting some empty markers and grouping the spy unit to them. He should start from a randomly selected marker.

or you can use the unit placement radius edit a unit look at the bottom it says
placement radius    0
change the 0 to something bigger then then click ok or accept or whatever it is and you should relise thers a circle around the unit that means that unit will apear anyhwere within that circle

also great for adding random events in missions

... or place several snipers on the map with deleteVehicle this in their init line. Then they will only be on the map if the player has selected one of them in the MP selection screen (because only AI can be deleted, it never happens to players).

The downside to this method is that there may be more then one sniper on the map if there is more than one east player. You may, however, prevent this by making an endLoose trigger around the staring zone (Montignac) that counts the number of east units present within this zone. If the result is larger than one, the trigger fires. I saw this method in an assassin mission once. And the mission maker was kind enough to point out that "only one player may join group Alpha Red" in the selection screen info box. I don't remember the syntax for the trigger though.

yeah i tried that but the sniper kept appearing in the middle of the street which is full of resistance soldiers at the start of the mission. i really want him placed in a building
