In fact, the clean way is the modfolder way.
Off course there's no reason why overwriting the original
shouldn't work same like using a modfolder, but an original is
an original and if there's any way to keep an original untouched,
then this is the way to go.
Once you figure out how easy it is to overwrite this or that, you
become addicted and probably you gonna start overwriting more
than just the 'ding' - and if you do it with the original, maybe
some other stuff will stop working as intended to be (like 3rd
party addons which use some of the original stuff).
If you changed too much from the original you might get lost
about what and where and then could happen that it'll be time
for a fresh install and everything you've done was for nothing
at the end.
While when using modfolders you can even switch between
heavy modified or 'ding' removed only, etc.
