Blood Puff

Is there no way of getting rid of the blood puff?

There's so many good blood mods, and the puff spoils the whole animation.  ;)

I think its the same thing as when you shoot the ground, only its brown.

With a config.bin replacement thing, like Y2K3, ECP etc do with their new blood
No way as far as I know you can do it in config.cpp of addon though

Your right, It can only be done by editing game engine.
I forget the name of that file... Data or Data3d?
I like your approach, lets see your departure.

@Rujik
The file is config.bin

@penguinman
No to both.  To add these features would require changing the hard-coded parts of the game.  Aside from being near impossible, I believe this is also illegal.

i think its possible to remove the blood puff.

I saw on A TV show where police stoped some car and the guy got out with a rifle and took aim.  the police opened up and he was hit 7 times in the torso. he had no aromor

i did not see any blood but just tiny puffs of smoke or somthing on his jacket.

then he fell over on the concrete,

after 2 or 3 secconds his arm reached up and picked up his rifle and he aimed it back at police. they opened fire again, hitting him 8 more times on the ground again no blood, but his body would jerk a little every time a round hit him.

an ambulance came he spent a few weeks in the hospitol and then got 15 years in prison or somthing.

I think its a little unfair to give him jail time after the police shot him full of holes.

but anyway, is there a script that can remove the blood puff. like that deletes the bullet before it hits him and uses setdammage?

that may be possible, if you could catch the bullet fast enough. and if you catch the bullet, there's the question of whether or not it would have actually hit the unit. then there's the fact that the kill won't show in your stats.

It's a common misonception that blood sprays out like that.  The only place it does really spray from is the exit wound.  Only then, the blood and bits of body are travelling at such a high velocity that it looks like a fine mist, and often times cannot be picked up by dodgy police cameras.

Sigh...
*reluctantly gets on soapbox*

Well believe it or not, even head shots look pretty much like a light pink mist.  The stuff is exploding out so fast due to high velocity cavitation that you just dont see large drops...

I won't go into how I know this, but trust me.

If you can find it, the L.A. Bank Robbery footage illustrates this rather clearly.  The last perp shoots himself under the chin and the news chopper camera picks up the exit mist pretty clearly.  Theres also a video of an Iraqi RPG insurgent getting smoked by a SAW gunner over on the @war site.  So you can all see for yourself.

In my experience, the real world effects of violence are much less pronounced than the overdone "holywood" effects about 99% of the time... The inverse is true of the aftermath though.

Its kind of ironic...the genreral  public likes gory depictions of people getting hurt and dying, but remains squeamish about the end result.

...why are you looking at me like that? Just be glad I'm on your side.

well, actualy in the news camera footage, they dont show much at all and anyways that was a pistol,

i think I must tell you that if sombody does get shot in the head with anything of larger caliber than a pistol, there is actualy a lot of stuff in droplet and chunk form that comes out.

the thing is, the brain is floating in spinal fluid, and that is like shooting a water ballon, except the head dosent pop.

there is a website, which i stumbled onto, by accident which i regret finding but it has many pictures of this sort of thing, suicides with all kinds of things and all the graphic police evidence photos.

it has all kinds of suicide methods documented and photographs, from pistol to the head, to shotguns to the head, to jumping in front of a speeding train.

Im not going to post a link to avoid some of ofpecs younger members being exposed. and also the admins might not like it.

anyways so much discussion on blood comming out of wounds, it dosent matter, I found out that you can switch the blood off in the options screen.

thanks

no, the admins definitely would not like it. all this talk of exit wounds is a wee bit off-topic, don't you think?

the original question was how to get rid of the blood-puff effect, a question which has been answered in two ways - either installing a mod, or switching off the blood effect altogether.

topic solved methinks, mmm?
