older versions of OFP
« on: 29 Mar 2005, 06:43:36 »
 ??? ???
so many time i have been browsing ofpec and found a cool addon, but then i see the required version and have to go somewhere else.

i know someone with ofp 1.46 and they cant find anything anywhere that they can use and even i have some problems.

anyone serious about making missions should consider some form of backwards-compatibility so that those of us who dont have the latest versions can still use them.

please email me at ohard1@eq.edu.au with any ideas, comments or sugestions

some people made their missions with 1.46 and 1.75(res) compatible addons. other than that, i believe your royally screwed. i found resistance expansion, but it was extremely hard to find. i guess all i can say is keep searching for it!

Edit: I do remember that when i first had OFP 1.20, the damn thing wouldn't let me upgrade to 1.3, then 1.46! i ended up wiping my HD and reinstalling the game before it would work.

Can be found in Sweden quite easily (that is, if you don't mind buying the GOTY edition, but the prize is much the same). Order it from there?

And people doing backwards compatible versions of their missions? I can see that work on the more basic missions. But many missions use stuff like Nogova, 1.75+ commands, 1.75+ addons, etc. And I for once don't want to rescript a whole mission just for like two people that's going to play it in 1.46.

I had a look round and, fookin hell, look at this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4596&item=8180968757&rd=1

You can get resistance for 0.01$ if you hurry and no-one notice. 13 hours left. :D

you may not want to backwards-whatever your mission, but i know i've seen them where it says: My Mission(Res) and then another says My Mission (1.46), and they're the same mission. I believe this happened shortly after resistance came out, and people finished their 1.46 missions, then converted them over to Resistance.

I was going to suggest you look on ebay, but I was beaten to it. Every time I check ebay, I see dozens of copies of Resistance selling for $15 or less. Anybody who is serious about PLAYING ofp should have resistance. NO ONE is going to try and make backwards-compatible addons or missions anymore, because there is no reason not to. Older versions of OFP simply have less features than newer versions, especially from CWC->Res. Why would someone want to limit themselves by using only those options available in v1.0? Much of the stuff you see in addons today would not be possible using v1.0, plain and simple. If you refuse to upgrade your OFP, then you should accept the fact that nothing new will be made for it, and you will just have to be happy with the 100,000 missions/addons that were made pre-resistance. ;)

EDIT

Didn't a thread exactly like this one come up just a few days ago? Funny how that always seems to happen...

my advice for finding resistance is to check places other than video and computer game stores. I found my copy in the eletronics section of The Real Canadian Superstore (its a grocery store, with some clothes and electronics).
