submerged m113s
« on: 21 Mar 2005, 03:39:30 »
what's the deal with making those things behave like boats? How come a group and survive while its driving inwater yet you drown? Can anyone quickly explain how the water system works in ofp?

It is coded (in the config) as amphibious... a property only available to vehicles.  For a unit to be able to swim, an addon, such as the CoC Diver, is needed.

Actually, I was playing a mission the other day......instead of continuing from my save from the day before.....I accidentally started from scratch.   ::)

So.....I thought to myself......nae bother.....I'll just eject from the chopper into the water and die.....then reload the mission and play from my save.

Except.....I didn't die......I waited and waited, meanwhile my men had reached land and disembarked and were wondering where I was.

So.....I started moving towards the land......1.5 Km away.
I made it to land, but by this time my men were all dead.
So, I ran around for a while......then I decided to try swimming back out to sea....I wanted to see if I would die this time.

I didn't die.....the funny thing is......I can make this happen with this mission almost every time.

I haven't tried to find out why yet, but I might sometime soon.

You know what? Its as if under water is just steep gradients. And when you move you fall and die so it simulates you drowning.

When you landed with the chute, it probably made you go prone on a steep gradient and you didn't fall.so you crawled your way to shore?

I dunno damnit there's a few things that are really 'comme-ci-comme-ca' in OFP. But its still one of the best damn games I've ever played

Its not just the steep gradients. If you're in relatively shallow water and lie down with your head under water, you'll die eventually. But, I don't know why this happens. I just accept it.... ;D

Though I'd like to see a splash when a guy "falls" or jumps in the water.

That's not realistic. In real life people don't make splashes  ::)
