JAM_9x39 and distancezoomMin/-Max
« on: 17 Nov 2004, 15:09:29 »
In the last days I tried to make all my east weapons JAM2 kompatible and I finally finished. There're some not 100% solveable problems of course (e.g. different fire modes, using 75rd drums in a AK-103).

One thing I had a big problem with ise the use of JAM_9x39SD ammo in VSS, AS-val and Groza weapons. The bullets hit much too high.

I finally tested the ammo in the AS from ICP/ORCS and it worked.

I now know it got something to do with the distancezoommax and distancezoommin in the config.
I set both values to 100 and the bullets hit. I finally set them to 200. The bullets hit a little too high at nearest distance now, but they hit the mark at a distance from about 250 metres. It's a compromise to use the weapon up to a distance about 400 metres like in reality. For all who don't know: the initspeed of that bullet is 290!!!

So my question is: Who of you guys can explain to me how the distancezoom command actually works and why is there a min and max line.

I cant explian all of it,
but i do know that the distancezoomMin is for the OpticszoomMin and same for Max

So when you got different values in opticszoom -min and -max you probably need different values in distancezoom -min and -max either.
I'll try a bit on some scoped weapons.

"distanceZoomMin" is the range in metres that the rifle is
zeroed at when the optics are zoomed out to the value
in "opticsZoomMin".
"distanceZoomMax" is the rifle's zero when zoomed in to the
"opticsZoomMax" value.
"opticsZoom" is the actual magnification.

The game calculates the trajectory of the bullet to zero the rifle
at the declared distances. Think of how the zero changes
with the BIS M21 riflescope and then you'll recognise the
way these values work.

This shouldn't bother you though as Russian scopes all use
a ruler for range estimation don't they? I didn't think
any of them "zoomed" (not many military spec rifle scopes
actually do "zoom" in RL.)
