Built in sounds

I want to be able to use the sounds that come with the game but so far say "fire" is about the only thing I can manage.  I have de-pbo_ed the sound.pbo files that came with the game (+ Resistance).  I see the files are of the type .wss.  I have nothing that will play a file of this type, but in any event if I do say"filename" then I either get the message that the file cannont be found, or I get no sound.

What I am after specifically is the sound that is made when a mine is placed on the ground

This must be either:
- a very difficult question
- a very stupid question
- a very unclear question

I can't do anything about the first.  If it is the second I would welcome some clues as to why.  If it is the third please let me know and I will try again.

Not all sounds are 'playable' or 'sayable' but those that are are the ones defined with classnames in the config files.

What you need are the commented configs which should be in the Ed Depot somewhere.  Pick through those (best to search on 'ogg' or 'wss') to see what's in there.  I know for a fact you can use the voice and sound samples that appear in the trigger effects lists as they are defined as classes - try:

unit Say "Eng21"

And you'll see what I mean.

There's nothing to stop you reconfiguring default sound files as new sound classes, I suppose, if they're what you need.  Might just have to be wary of the paths in the description.

It wasn't the question - just too many options for answers.

Lol  Thanks.  It all started when I wanted to use the sound that the game makes when a mine or satchel charge is placed.  Knowing how to replicate the sound of a fire I thought it would be easy but then walked into a brick wall.

Thanks for the help on what to search for, that is the sort of help I needed.

The main question is:

How to use the OFP Voice lib?
 there should be something like:

alpha say "roger"   ... but its not working...

in the config, it says Voices ... Rob ... Numbers .. 500
the rob bart should be determined by that alpha, numbers by the config,...


that simple thing is very annoying, i dont want to include the voice.pbo files in my mission. its BIG

Why would you need to?

Everyone will already have their own copy of voice.pbo in the games dta folder.
