rounding out your island
« on: 31 Dec 2004, 22:31:51 »
my island looks too square on some parts because  the elevation point selector tool only drags in a square shape

how do i round the parts out to make it a little more natural

Are you using WrpEdit?

If so, you can select individual points instead of a terrain square.

You can raise/lower individual points easily.

Sorry......I missed that bit out.

Hold down Ctrl whilst left clicking the point.

You can select many individual points, it doesn't need to be just one.

If anyone wants to do this and uses WrpTool, you can use the "Smooth" tool to achieve the same effect but with a lot less effort

How did you make your island?

Is it from DEM data or did you make your own by some other method.

Smoot/ Blur tool (in WrpTool)

1) Open your island and go to the area which has the "sqaure" looking elevations that you want to change.

2) Open the "Elevation Tool"

3) Select the squares that you want to smooth out (use Ctrl to select multiple points)

4) In the Elevation Tool, set "Blur" to the value you want (height in metres). 5 is a soft blur, 10 more radical, but it really depends on what your island looks like.

5) Click "Blur" - look at results in the 3D view.

6) If you are not sure as to what to put in the "Blur" box, set it at a low value (say 2 or 3), open the 3D View, and click blur, then you can see how much it smoothens out, and by how much.

Lean Bear is talking about WrpTool

WrpEdit only ever had the one version.
