Cool insertion methodfor seal-type missions.
« on: 01 Dec 2004, 17:45:13 »
I'm sure someone else may have happened upon this but I thought I would post it just in case.  The other day some friends and I were messing around in multiplayer with the CoC divers addon and Seals divers addon.  We happened upon the fact that if our chopper pilot  flew under 10m in height and under 100 in speed we could actually pull off a helocasting insertion.
I then went on to test it with an AI pilot and by setting the way points during the helocasting run at flyinheight 05 and limited speed I was able to successfully get an AI squad of divers to do a helocast insertion.  It looked great!  Especially with a BAS Pavehawk.  Flying low with the water misting up from the rotor-wash effect and the divers jumping into the water one at a time and then them slowly appearing one at a time on the beach.
Just thought I would share that in case anyone else was interested.

Yep, those CoC divers are pretty cool....you can also eject them one at a time from a moving PBR to get that "rolling off the sides" effect - I added a custom splashing sound when they eject so it works pretty well IMO.

Thats cool too.  I meant to try that as well and then got all excited when we were able to pull off the helocast insertion and forgot all about it.
I also tried to see if you could swim out to a PBR and get on board in the water but you can't  :-[.  That would have been cool for extractions.  Swim out to meet up with the PBR in the black of night after blowing up some naval ammo depot.  If anyone can figure out how to make that work let me know please.

You can script it!  You can add and action to you player when he is close to the boat.  Then use moveIndriver or moveincargo or moveingunner (you can make three actions so you have the option).  For Ai guys you can just script the movincargo when they get close to the boat.  The only prolem is you wont have the climbing in animation.
