lightning strike
« on: 03 Nov 2004, 09:36:13 »
hi quick question

does anyone know if (or how) you can make lightning stike in a radio trigger?

i am making a sky pack and making new lightning textures and i need lightning at will to check it out in game. its a complete pain in the arse waiting around in a storm and trying to catch it (even harder   trying to get a screenshot).

also could i use a marker to position it? so i knew where it was going to strike..

If you have photshop you can easily create some neat lighting effects.  My experience of seeing lightning in the game is that there is a flash of light from a single light source in the sky.  More like a flash bulb than a jagged line.

er .... yes i have photoshop and have easily made some neat lightning effects  :-\

my problem is how to see them in game without standing around waiting for an hour for lightning to strike in front of me. setting weather to bad in editor isn't exactly quick way to test em.

Hi,

If you are intrested in doing something yourself:Go to the Editor depot

First:Search and read a drop tutorial (Vektorboson)

Second: search for "Dialog drop" by Seedhe.

D/l,install in your users\missions folder, start SP editor in Desert Island.

You will see "Open Dialogue" in your menu.

Click it,you will have a dialog with all parameters of the drop command.

Under "shapename" pick Blesk1 ; "Type" pick billboard.

Press start, and U will already have some kind of lightning.

Play with all the other parameters till you have something U like :)

U can copy\paste the whole drop commandline from the bottom.

Put this line in a fast loop in a script, also attach your drop command (last parameter) to an object,(or give a startposition),exec your script with a trigger :)

Enjoy your creation ;)

it appears reading this again in a more awake state reveals i missed this bit "Second: search for "Dialog drop" by Seedhe."

RAAAAH how good is that thing  :)

ive got like beams of light shooting into the sky :o

i can also see my lightning textrues in game (although not acting like lightning but more like a camp fire ) but at least i can see them properly to make sure they look ok

thank you very much

Q. there are 24 lightning textures in game .anyone know how the game animates them,
are they in order like frames or does game just flicker them randomly ?

this why i would like to be able to have normal in game lightning to strike when i want so i can mess textures up and see how it works by replacing them with big numbers or summit to see wot happens

right off to play with my new toy :)
