The First of Many
« on: 20 Sep 2004, 18:00:55 »
Hello

Im working on a new mission in the ABEL mag (The Everon, Malden and Kolgojev map) and it's a kind of black hawk down rip of.
And since I am a major newbie when it comes to this i would like som help.

So I have a few questions:

1: The crashed black hawk was transporting a 12 man group. I want som of these to be dead by defult and some to be alive and possible be killed later. How do I do this?

2: I want the survivors (If any) to enter the rescue helikopter but I don't want the helikopter to wait for them if all are dead (It does that at the moment). How do I fix this?

Thanks for the help

welcome to the forum!

When you place a unit that you want to be dead, reduce his health/armour slider to 0.   He will die at the start of the mission.

Anything to do with choppers is tricky - they are very temperamental.    There are several tutes and scripts in the Editors Depot.    Link at the to off this page.

sometimes (dunno, but it does on mine) the unit will stay alive even if it's health slider is set to minimum. To make sure the unit is without a doubt dead, you can put this into it's initialization field:

This SetDammage 1

It'll set the unit ("this" refers to the unit that the field belongs to) 's health/armor damage to 100% (hence the 1)

Also, for the group problem... give each unit a seperate name (unia, unib, unic, etc) and then have a trigger "groupdead" or something, which has conditions "not (alive unia) and not (alive unib) etc.... there's likely faster or cleaner ways to do this, mind. Then have it set a value such as "groupdead"; then the conditions for the helicopter to wait to be "not groupdead" and the other conditions.

There is a script in the ed depot which will do just what you want.

Its a helicopter tail rotor failure script.

It will kill or injure people in certain seats (one's you define) or at random.  It won't kill the player.

I've used the script myself once before. Its very good.
