Starting on a carrier
« on: 04 May 2004, 14:02:04 »
Hi guys,

I was wondering how can you make a plane fly at a certain height (preferably low (<50)) I'm aware of the "flyinheight" command but never had it working.

The main thing i want to know, is if it is every difficult to make start on a carrier. I want to begin the mission with u bunch of men and empty planes standing on the deck of the carrier. Is this possible?

Well, based on my experience the OFP engine don't like units put on top of each other or inside or whatever, they will just bounce away and crap like that. But well, it might be a super addon. :)

You need to fiddle with the setpos command:

unitname setpos [(getpos unitname select 0), (getpos unitname select 1), X]

where X is the height of the unit.

Another great BIS 'feature'... ;D
Ah, but, Armsty, this is not true for:
LSD - you can walk around the decks, park vehicles in the cargo bay, and choppers on the pad. Until the thing starts to move, when everyone slides off... ;D

HMS Hermes carrier - Not actually a vehicle, it's a static object. But objects (planes and people included) can be placed on it's surface, without trouble.

But yeah, the setPos command should sort you out merby1.
Stick it in the INIT field of the unit you want to place. Experiment with different heights until you get it about right.

Note that if the aircraft has a pilot in it when it is created, it will immediately try to take off (plunging to it's death in the water). The same is true if you put the pilot in the plane afterwards. See HERE for more stuff about this.

Greetings, tHe s4lut3.

I still haven't had a chance to try the USS Nimitz, but I believe that all the rules for the HMS Hermes (beta vers) would apply. You could use the setPos command to place units on the carrier deck.
