More Tonal Island Help
« on: 07 Nov 2003, 00:16:01 »
I used the 1.94 beta patch so i could check out the Tonal Island.  First there was no sound and now the Whole computer crashes when i try to play OFP.  Any help would be great and thanks in advance.

Patch 1.94 works terribly well here......no problems at all really.

Are you sure you followed the installation instructions for the BAS stuff correctly?

I would recheck that you put everything where it was supposed to go.

BTW......When you install the 1.94 patch it does NOT replace the 1.91 .exe file,  It installs another .exe file which you need to run instead of the 1.91 .exe.  Make a new shortcut to the 1.94 .exe.

I had the same problem.   Here is how I fixed it!   You most likely have too many addons in your addon folder.    I am assuming depending on the speed and memory of your machine will dictate how big your addon file can be before funky things start happening such as lost of sound.    So I suggest deleting some of your addons you don't need or use the ofpam to deactivate the one you don't use that much.     Depending on the speed and memory of your machine you want to keep your addons folder below 1gig. This is based on my machine amd 2200 1 gig of ram & G4 TI4600.   So if your machine is slower you would need to keep addon folder to under a gig.

I hope this works!

Fottunately patch 1.94 fixes the 'memory map' bug as relates to the amount of addons.

So, you shouldnt need to worry about that.

Thats correct it does fix memory map errors.   But it does not address handling large folders of addons.   For example having a gig worth of addons cumalitive.  That is why there are certain applications out there to allow you to deactivate addons for this simple reason.

I'm pretty certain having a large addon folder 1.4gig or greater can cause sound and other funky  problems.  I have installed my addons 1.35gigs on serveral different machines for a lan party they all had the same problem "no sound"  When we deleted some of the addons the sound work.   I also think a large addon folder can cause video driver problems.    I don't know why but it does.

Not at all....all addons in the Addons folder are not mapped into menory until you use them now.

So, you can have as many Gb of addons in the Addons folder as you like.

This is my understanding anyway.

Dude, trust me I have installed enough addon folders on enough machines to know it will cause sound and video driver problems if the cumalitive size of the addon folder is very large.   It is a know fact large addon folder will cause problems to the game.   Again, I'm not talking about one addon I'm talking about the total size of the addon folder.

I suppose all these machines, with all these addon folders, were all running patch 1.94 then.

However, this is getting off-topic.

DDT.......has your problem been solved?
