how do you make a trigger go off when a guy dies?

group him to it using F2, select the proper activation (group leader, vehicle, or any group member) and then make it a not present trigger ;)

just make sure you make it big enough to where the unit won't wander out of it either

or its as easy as  not (alive deadguy)  in the condition feild

trigger the size of the map, activated by anyone presesnent.  condtion is not(alive unitname)

actually it doesn't have to be with full map radius. 0x0 trigger with condition line !(alive unitname) will do the job.

And to support Artak's suggestion;

using a trigger, which covers the whole area will eat a whole
lott'a performance (unnecessary), as the game would have
to check every little bit inside this area wether the condition
does/doesn't match  ;)

everything above should do it, just choose one
