Author Topic: Counter Problem? Me..No way...Yes..ERm..NEed help...Stupid COUNTERS!  (Read 901 times)

    Hmmm...I seem to be having a problem, with " Counters " so to speak.

     What my problem is, is I made a script, that when it is triggered, it will add 1 to "Player1Nickel". And continue to add 1 to it.
 
      The script will then check if it is at a certain number, then using the goto command, will perform a certain action.

       These are my LOVELY counters! Well, part of my script. Come on down!

?(Player1 distance Basket4 < 20): Player1Nickel = Player1Nickel + 1

?(Player1Nickel == 5): goto "Nickel1HateP1";

?(Player1Nickel == 6): goto "Nickel2HateP1";

?(Player1Nickel == 8): goto "Nickel3HateP1";

?(Player1Nickel == 9): goto "Nickel4HateP1";

?(Player1Nickel == 10): goto "Nickel5HateP1";

?(Player1Nickel == 14): goto "Nickel6HateP1";

?(Player1Nickel == 15): goto "Nickel7HateP1";

     Hmm...Does that Nickel look right on the dime?

     Let me try to explain this better:

1. Script is triggered via the Player's Action menu "(Take NIckel)".
2. Script adds 1 to "Player1Nickel".
3. The script checks to see if Player1Nickel is equal to 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, and 15.
4. If Player1Nickel is equal to 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, or 15, it will goto a different part of the script depending on the number.


     Seems like it would work right? WRONG. When I tested this script out, no matter how many times I used it (20 - 40) it didn't go to the different lines like it would. If I used the script 5 times, it wouldn't go to the line I had designated if the script had been used 5 times.

       If you still have trouble understanding me or my problem let me know.

        So, the script is supposed to count how many times it's been used, then if it has been used a certain number of times, it will go to a line in the script where it would perform the required and specified action.

         IT's not doing that though....Ayy..Have the counters counted me out? Am I no longer counted? MY HEAD IS FULL OF COUNTS! AHHH! GET EM OUT! GET EM OUT! AHH - ( Runs into Ofpec Server) *thrap.wav*...Ouch...

      I KNOW THATTTT!!! AHHHHH!!! It starts AT ZERO! You answered your own question....How? What? WHen...ANUAHAHAHAAHAHAH!!!!!


      Anyways, enough freaking out. Well, first of all, I don't think you under stand the problem. You know what I want to do, but  not the problem.

      When I test the script out IN THE GAME, no matter how many times I exec it, those condition checkers WON"T goto the assigned LINES!

       If I exec the script once, then once again, then another time, then a fourth, and finally a fith, where it says:

"?(Player1Nickel == 5): goto "Nickel1HateP1";"

   It is supposed to be GONG TO NICKEL1HATEp1 when I USE THE SCRIPT 5 TIMES! IT"S NOT DOING THAT...WHY?!

       I don't know how to make it simpler! AND YOU ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION!!!! WHY?! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! MY HEAD! MY HEEAADD!

There, there. Calm down, man. What LCD ment was that the script can't make Player1Nickel more than 1 because your script stops.

  Umm...Nooo..I don't want it to loop!!!

    What your tlaking about is changing my script so that when Player1 ic within 20 feet of basket4
 it will continually loop and loop and loop, and it'll reach extraordinary numbers in a matter of SECONDS!

     I said, "When the script IS TRIGGERED" not when Player1 is WITHIN 20 feet of Basket4.

    That's not my entire script either!!! You want me to post the ENTIRE script. Well, let me at least show you the first portion, so you get
 an idea on what's going on a little bit better.

OK, so let me figure this out and tell me where I'm wrong, and help me understand this.

You have two things going on here.

When teh player gets close enough to the basket, then thay "start takeing nickels" and their score goes up, and the longer they stay close enough to the basket, they keep gaining points?  If this is true, I need to know two things.  The delay between the score incriments, and how many points are added to the score?  

IE: The player stays there for 3 seconds, and gets 1 point. He stays there for 6 seconds, and gets another  point (total of 2 now). etc.

Now while he is hanging out there at the basket, there is text warnings being displayed to all the players?  If this is true, then i need to know how often you want a warning to be displayed (Haveing a new one displayed every three seconds is too fast to read.  If going with 1 point every three seconds, I would have a warning pop up no faster than 12 seconds apart).

Tell me that, then either myself or someone else can repair the script.

Why don't you just post the entire script here?

Also, have you tried to debug after

and see what is the value of Player1Nickel.

Something like "Player1 globalChat format ["%1", Player1Nickel];"

    Hmmm...I think LCD is right. Player1ACC is Player1's money account. I set the value of the account using a Trigger in the map.

     It probably isn't working, because I have to "create the variable" first, like I did with Player1ACC. Player1ACC and Player2ACC are both set a certain value. That's probably why they work.

       I'll try that LCD, and get back to you on it.
