Long range firing
« on: 27 Apr 2003, 22:47:28 »
Is it possible that an enemy unit like a tank can fire to my tank from a long distance? Seems that enemy tanks only fire to me at a maximum distance of 600 mts.
I have tried several commands like KnowsAbout, doTarget, do Fire, etc. and none of them has worked.
I am relatively new in this game and dont know too much yet.
In which box do I have to type KnowsAbout? I have tried in several boxes and there appears an error telling me
"invalid expression number" or anothers errors depending on how I write the command.
Can anybody help me? I like long range battles.

Hi,

As far as i'm aware, there is a maximum firing range in OFP, meaning that if a unit/weapon has a limit of 500 metres, it can not fire furthur than that distance.

Sorry ::)

Knowsabout only returns how much a unit knowsabout the other one, it does not set it. The only way you can make someone know is using the reveal command:

Code: [Select]
unit-to-be-revealing reveal unit-to-be-revealed
But this only makes the knowsabout 1 I think. :(

There is a problem with very long range shooting, in that it doesn't work.   ;D   (There have been various threads, use the forum search function.)   However, you are talking about tank battles, which in general means you have a line of sight to the target.     I was zapped by a tank at over 600m just the other day, so I know the AI can do it.

Try increasing the skill to maximum and using reveal as Gameer suggested.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

If it's just for you and you have a decent PC, then by turning up the viewdistance that also effects the AI.

Although I don't think people will appreciate it if you turn their viewdistance up to 5000. ::)

This might only work for Resistance.

If youve ever tried configging a totally new weapon you would realise that in the config you have to set a maximum distance the AI can fire at....likely this is 600m for a tank then, and youre not gonna change it without changing the config...not a good idea.... ::)
