Waypoints... Scripted? Hmm...
« on: 23 Apr 2003, 12:42:26 »
I just wondered what the "scripted WP's" do...
I checked some toturials, but they all said : "Advanced. Other toturials cover them"

Well I don't found them.
Anybody care to help me out?

I'm not sure what that means ... can you provide some context?

They could be talking about the set waypoint and get waypoint position commands, can't remember exactly what they are called.

You know... In the Wp list there are several Wp's to chose between.

Move
Get In
Get Out
Seek and Destroy
Scripted <<--------- What the fuck is this Wp to?
Cycle
Hold
Guard
Etc
Etc

Ah, yes.   I have no idea.   All I can do is quote from the bible of misson editing, the Prima Stratgey Guide which game with Red Hammer.   (And got me started on mission editing)   I have a feeling that whoever wrote it doesn't really know either, because this doesn't make much sense, but this is what it says.

Quote
Scripted:   Another special waypoint, you must enter the script name to the Script field.   When a group reaches its previous waypoint, the script runs.   Script has three parameters - group ("owner" of waypoint), position (of the waypoint) and target.

Hmm.. interesting.. I've never given it any thought.

You can activate a script with simply adding the exec command to the on activation field.. So there must be some other reason for it.. ummh..

Maybe it's a way to execute a script with automaticly passing the parameters group, position and target.
So in a script you can have

group1 = _this select 0

and it will select the first parameter passed, being the group. In a way it would look something like

[groupname, getpos wp1, targetname] exec "script.sqs"

I'm only speculating.. plus it can't be very important sense none of us has ever heard of it.
Not all is lost.
