A series of questions
« on: 21 Apr 2003, 05:00:41 »
Sorry to ask it here, but I can't find this anywhere else, it seems.

First of all, explain how to make a campfire burning right from the start and a flagpole with the soviet flag as well. A tutorial mission could have showed me how, but I didn't have the nessicary unattainable addons to run it.

Secondly, please state the files needed for a basic mission and the names... briefing, overview, and the mission itself? Do I wrap this all in a folder for submittal?

Next, in-game radio chatter eludes me. Please assist my poor soul.

How do I have a flare pop up once a trigger is acheived, and can I actually have one of my soldiers do that instead of creating it in the air?

Finally, if I'm making this game in v 1.20 (and no, I can't fix that problem) can people in all these other versions use it? I'm assuming so...

Your help is all greatly appriciated... you'll be rewarded with a crappy mission.   ;D

Hi Hayden.

First of all...You CAN find most of the answers to those questions right here
at this site. Look in the "FAQ". Just follow the directions and you will be amazed at all the stuff that pops up. Any worthwhile tutorial won't need an addon. The problem is that your running V.1.20 and that is WAY out of date.
Since you "can't do nothing about that", I won't say no more. The addons your needing are probably BIS addons that started with V.1.30++++  If you want, I'll send you a (very) basic mission in version
1.20 and you just use it as an example mission (as your learning more) ;)

anyone else shed some light here?

Upgrade to 1.46.  It's free (apart from the download time of course) and it's very well worth it.    You will have a constant life of frustration if you don't.   If you're having trouble upgrading head over to the official forums at www.flashpoint1985.com and ask for help.   1.20 is a pretty crappy version, 1.30 is really the minimum for "bug free" and 1.46 is much better.    Better still, buy Resistance - I heard somebody claim they got if for just $10 off some website.

In any event read this tutorial, which answers several of your questions.  Read some of the tutes it recommends - the questions you are asking are all well covered by tutorials.

Download the Tutorial Mission, which specifically answers several more.    It was created in 1.46, I don't know if it will run in 1.20 but you could try.  The worst that can happen is CTD.

Well done cornholio  :)   Did you have to do anything, or did it work anyway?    Would you post a Comment (on the tute) to say what you did to make it work in 1.20?

Many thanks

Thanks to all of you for replying! This has to be the friendliest forum I've ever visited!

As for the 1.20 thing, I probably -could- upgrade, but first I have to get the 1.30 patch to run. Every time I try, it gives me the loading screen, a pause, and a "insert the correct CD and restart the application" error. Unfortunately, I already have that CD in the drive. (A similar problem exists when I try to start the game as usual, only ejecting and reinserting the CD seems to kickstart it into reading the CD again. The trick's magic wears out on the patch.)

I would like to wholeheartedly apologize for my use of a double negative and promise it won't happen again, but you didn't have to bring it up, Cornholio.   :'(

;D's to people who like subtle humor.

Thank you for fixing that tutorial mission. I beleive that I downloaded it earlier but couldn't get it to run due to the version difference. Your selfless efforts, all your selfless efforts, are greatly appriciated.

And yes, Resistance is in the near future.

@ Hayden. If you are not using an official Operation Flash-point
CD-ROM, (otherwise, a copy). You won't be able to update to v1.30 or any other version for that fact. (I think I'm correct on that point)

Don't worry about the double negative thingy and I'm sorry I brought it up:)

@ macguba. I only changed the AH-64 to AH-1 and also the Ammo box (west 2) to normal west ammo box.
I hope you don't mind ???

Been there. Done that. Twice.

And all I got was this crummy tee-shirt.

For those of you who might want to see what I've created before its official, here's what I've got.

cornholio, no of course I don't mind, I'm delighted.  Can you make a Comment to that effect on it, one of these days I'll get round to changing it, if that's all it needs.

Quote
"insert the correct CD and restart the application"
happens when the game tells you to insert the correct cd in drive. i.e. not the backupcopy you may be using.
OFP accepts only the original cd, you can't even make a backup copy of it.  ;)

As far as I know there are cracked patches 1.1 and 1.2 on the net but not the 1.3 and 1.46 anywhere. I guess they just are too hard to crack.

Ok, I probably should get this straight with you all.

[shadow=red,left,300]I went to the store, I payed my money, and I bought my copy. It is a silver CD with a CD code and a manual and all that shiz. So quit saying I'm a software pirate.[/shadow]
[/size]

With that out of the way, how do I create flares in midair? And has anyone tried out my map?

hehe  ;D I wasn't suggesting anything Hayden, I was just stating that the error message above occurs when trying to insert a copy of the original cd.  ;)

Anyways..

To create flares in midair. ok. There are many ways to do it, but this ought to be the easiest.
Make a trigger activated by what you want and type in it's on activation field:

flare1 = "flarered" camcreate [getpos gl1 select 0, getpos gl1 select 1,(getpos gl1 select 2)+80]

That will create a red flare in 80 meters of height. other flare string names are at least "flaregreen" "flareyellow" and maybe "flarewhite" or just "flare".

edit
bugger me I forgot to tell you that gl1 is a game logic named gl1 which you should place where you want the flare to be created.

Hayden, if you want people to try out your map, post it in the beta testing forum - that's what it's for.   It doesn't have to be finished.    Read the sticky at the top of the beta forum for a few tips.

As regards the flare thing, there are several ways.   You could write in a trigger or waypoint:-

loon1 fire "flarered"    (choose from red, green yellow plain flare)

Make sure he has a grenade launcher and the relevant ammo.

Alternatively, you can camcreate one, lets say 100m metres above a game logic called gl_1

flare1 = "flare" camcreate [getpos gl_1 select 0, getpos gl_1 select 1, (getpos gl_1 select 2) + 100]

Syntax not guaranteed.

There are indeed two fire commands.   For the avoidance of confusion, here they are:-

unit fire weaponName

Operand types:
unit: Object
weaponName: String
Type of returned value:
Nothing
Description:
Unit will fire from given weapon.

Example:
soldierOne fire "HandGrenade"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

unit fire array

Operand types:
unit: Object
array: Array
Type of returned value:
Nothing
Description:
Unit will fire from given weapon. Argument has format [muzzle, mode, magazine] or [muzzle, mode].

Example:
soldierOne fire ["throw","SmokeShell","SmokeShell"]
