Yet Another Arty Question (sigh ... )
« on: 21 Apr 2003, 01:58:02 »
OK, here's the thing:
I know there's no indirect fire system in OFP, but:

1) Does anyone know if the various tank and rocket shells have a parabolic trajectory in the game?
2) Can I fix a "Game Logic" or other invisible object in the air so that the M109Paladin or 2S19 can fire at it.

That way the shell will eventually follow a parabolic trajectory and land on the real intended target, that is out of sight somewhere?

And how do I do this.

In other words, assuming a particular projectile flight path (eg: parabolic, semi-circular,etc),
I want to get the artillery to direct-fire at  an elevated point A, but the shell will pass through point A finally land on point B (indirect fire).  Where points A and B are both on the flight path trajectory.

shells do have a parabolic trajectory of some kind.   The problem appears to be that they have a timed out maximum range ... so if they haven't hit anything after a while they just vanish.   This makes long range arty tricky - basically you have to calculate the trajectory and camcreate a new shell at the right place and time.

You can indeed place something in the air to the the gun to fire, I'm not sure a GL works but try grouping it under an enemy group leader, that might help.   There are other ways of doing it, but I can't remember.    Have a good search of the forum, this has come up (in various forms) many times.
