Timing out a guard waypoint
« on: 29 Mar 2003, 09:21:32 »
As a default, the guard waypoint does not time out. The effect of this is that once a 'guard' unit has lost its target unit, it tends to just stay in the same place that it last saw the enemy unit and remain there until an enemy is sighted again, and it is reassigned.

What I'd like to do is time out the guarding waypoint (act as a guard unit for, ie: 300,300,300) so that it could then cycle around to a holding position and wait in a secure position (activation being triggered by a detection switch) before it resumes its guard function. Not unlike an Seek and Destory waypoint. The qualitative difference being a guard unit will go to any point on the map without being speificly assigned to it as is required by the SD waypoint.

Ive tried using the time out feature on the waypoint marker itself, tried using a trigger based switch and none of it seems to function for the specific task of timing out a guarding waypoint. What seems to happen is that once the unit arrives at the waypoint, it then starts timing down till it 'starts guarding',... then it just carries on to the next waypoint in the cycle without actually doing any guarding. Another odd effect is if it is a vehicle, all the units exit.

Very strange.

*snif* me need halp!
