Placing the edited O.pbo in the original DTA folder works ok for getting resistance stuff onto your map in WrpEdit.........but.........you MUST remove it again before running the game.

If you have pbo'd your wrp file and want to view it in game it will not fail to load if you remove the edited O.pbo from the original DTA folder.  The original Resistance copy is used instead.

If you don`t remove it the game complains and bombs out.

Just remove it and put it somewhere safe or temporarily rename it, I use OO.pbo.........be aware though..........if you start to edit your wrp file in WrpEdit again, you must replace the O.pbo in the DTA folder or rename it back to O.pbo, failure to do so will mean WrpEdit won`t find the resistance objects you have added already and you won`t be able to add more of course.

 Did I interpret this correct.
You can actually use an island in-game using resistance objects and textures.Been waiting for the update for wrpedit to start using resistance objects.Understood how the load resistance  objects in wrpedit worked, but this is playable?

Changing things in my wrpedit island after loading in
mission editor.Build some then check it,very monotonous,but
neccessary to get it like I want it.Would very much like to start using resistance objects also.

@Nasty

Maybe it depends on the machine or amount of memory, or how many addons you have in the Addons folder.......but.........it definitely bombs out on me.........maybe I should clean some stuff from my Addons folder.

Just so people know what to do if the same happens to them anyway.

@dwolf

If you can get Resistance objects onto your island using this method, they will work in game once you pbo your files and place it in the Addons folder.

Ive got a problem using cutpbo. I put the proper files in a Temp folder and then drag one PBO onto cutpbo and it says it cut the first 46 bytes succesfully but it never makes the new.pbo Can anyone help me? Ive even done a search of files to see if it put it anywhere but there is nothing. Thanks

are u running it in a dos box??
doesnt sound like it....
the cutpbo and the pbo itself need to be in the same directory, it creates a pbo called new-whatever.pbo in the same directory....

it works, u use a dos box

You only need to do it to get the objects onto an island in WrpEdit.

The actual game uses the Resistance copy of O.pbo, so there is no problem there.

WrpEdit at the moment can`t read the original Resistance O.pbo because the format of some Resistance pbo's was changed, including this one.  To enable WrpEdit to read the O.pbo the first 46 bytes need to be removed from a COPY of O.pbo.

The next version of WrpEdit apparently will be compatible with Resistance and be able to read all the pbo's.

If you have shaved the 46 bytes from a COPY of O.pbo.....and you have put the copy in the original OFP Dta folder, WrpEdit can see it and you are able to add objects to your map from it.  The copy MUST have the original name  i.e. O.pbo.

However, in most cases OFP will refuse to run, or run erratically if it comes across 2 files called O.pbo in its search path.

So when you finish editing your island and placing Resistance objects on it, either remove the copy of O.pbo from the Dta folder, or rename it temporarily.

You don`t need to worry about the game not finding it, it will use the original O.pbo.

If your copy of O.pbo was renamed after adding objects to your map, but before playing in game, you will need to rename it back to O.pbo before continuing to edit in WrpEdit.

If you do not rename it back to O.pbo, WrpEdit will complain about object not found.

If none of this helps, send it to me and I will look.......the .wrp file that is.....not the O.pbo......hahahahahahahahahahaha.

Faculty.......

Make sure your hex editor is displaying in hex mode:

The first 46 bytes of the original O.pbo are:

00 73 72 65 56 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

00 00 00 00 00 70 72 6F 64 75 63 74 00 4F 46 50

3A 20 52 65 73 69 73 74 61 6E 63 65 00 00

These are the bytes you need to remove.

The edited O.pbo will then start with:

41 6E 69 6D 5C 61 74 32 70 6B 6C 65 6B 31 2E 72

Hope this helps.

I've got a problem:

I can see the buildings ect. in the WRP edit tool, but when I load the map in OFP they are gone.

I have
  • Cut the O.pbo with the cutpbo tool
  • Copyed the "new-O.pbo" it to my Operation flashpoint\ addons folder
  • Renamed it O.pbo
Further more I have tryed:
  • Moved the RES\addons\O.pbo to a backup folder
  • Moved the cut O.pbo from Operation flashpoint\ addons to backup folder and moved RES\ addons\ O.pbo to Operation flashpoint\ addons

Where am I messing it up here ?

Another error I get is when Trees are picked in WRP edit I get this:

Hopefully someone out there can give me a little hand here  ;)

Helped:

Renamed O.pbo in RES\ addons
Copyed the cuted O.pbo to RES\ addons

Switched back to original when testing in OFP.

errr, u should not have the cuted O.pbo in the addons folder...u should have it in the DTA folder, and then remove it when playing OFP...if u have it in the addons folder it sometimes happen that it fucks it up and the res stuff doesn't show in game...

Garcia

btw, if u change it to DTA folder after having it in addons folder the buildings etc u have placed will not show up in game....

Just to clarify here.

Your edited O.pbo should be placed in the OFP original Dta folder.  WrpEdit will see it ok, but, before running OFP, rename it or remove it somewhere that is not in OFP's file path.  Alternatively, you can rename it temporarily.

Remember to reverse whichever procedure you carried out when you want to continue editing your island in WrpEdit.
i.e. Put it back, or rename it back to O.pbo.
Failure to do this will result in WrpEdit complaining that it can't find any of the objects from O.pbo that you may have added to your island.

Another point,

The original O.pbo must NOT be moved elsewhere, it lives in the Res\Addons folder.
If you have moved it elsewhere, put it back.
It MUST be named O.pbo, if you have renamed it to something else, rename it back again.

Hope this helps.

Yup, I did understand that correct and everything is now working fine except for these files that gives me the "Stream read error".

Example;
I browse the O folder in wrp edit holding some more folders and a bunch of .paa for texturering ground.
About the first 50 .paa's or so works fine until I try from n1.paa and downwards, then it hits me with  "stream read error".

Its the same with the rest of the folders under O, some works fine and others dont.

I tried n1.paa and various others further down. and all works fine here.

Maybe you could try starting again with O.pbo, in other words make a new edited version.

If that doesn't fix it, it might be a problem with your map file or WrpEdit.

Try editing a different map file and see if the problem persists.

and/or

Try downloading WrpEdit again and re-installing it.

Just a thought, but, make sure you only have the textures you need in WrpEdits texture list.  It might be that if you have to many textures in the list, it becomes 'full up'.

Well, I have never used this Cutpbo tool.

So unfortunately I am unable to advise on its use.

Why not try using a hex editor as detailed earlier in this thread, to make a suitable O.pbo.

Sounds like this thread is fun. :)
Ok. I have made my first island (looks crappy, but at least its a start). I have cut the first 46 bytes out of a copy of O.pbo in the OFP/DTA folder. Now Wrpedit sees the new o.pbo, and load it in.
THe problem I have is that when I insert an object Wrpedit tells me that the object is not loaded. The object instance shows on the map, but in Wrpedit viewer the land is as barren as before. Yet! In OFP the object is standing nice and pretty where it should be.
Any suggestions to overcoming the elusive Resistance objects not being loaded for view in Wrpedit Viewer.

@Colonel Klink

Just to check a few points here:

Your edited O.pbo file should now begin:

41 6E 69 6D 5C 61 74 32 70 6B 6C 65 6B 31 2E 72
74 6D 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 B1

It should be in the original OFP\Dta folder

It should still be named O.pbo

The original O.pbo should still be in Res\Addons

If all the following is correct then I am at a loss to explain why this is so.

How do you add the Resistance objects?
Do you use the 'O' folder entry in the Pb Manager in WrpEdit?
If so, this is correct.
