DEM Locations - Beginner
« on: 17 Mar 2003, 15:01:39 »
Good Morning,

Ok - I have searched and searched and I am failing to locate DEM's so I can download them and upload to Terregan. I am looking for African DEM's mostly for Mogadishu for a campaign I am working on.

If someone would be so kind to point me in the right direction I would be much obliged.

Available African DEMS as listed on Jan 8th by ASTER is herehttp://edcdaac.usgs.gov/aster/dem_map_fullimage.html

Unfortunatly, none are shown for Somolia.

Locating any other source by public means and for free I'd say is 99.99% out of the question for this area.

First off thanks for providing the link....

1. How do you go about scaling the DEM's down from to just use a certain portion? I am noticing that the DEM's are extremely large (area that is covered) and I just need one part.

Well you can go through my ASTER DEM tutorial available on this site to get the data into a workable form. Then you can read through my very first tutorial. Problem is I stopped hosting it awhile back and lost the files in a reformat. Fortunately the WEB Archive kept somewhat of a copy here -http://web.archive.org/web/20020601092312/www.ofp-ojr.info/wrp.html
I plan on rewriting it and posting it like the ASTER tut but I never seem to have enough time...

I know it's kind of hard to follow but if you have any probs just ask. Planck has a good grasp of this knowledge as well.
