How to obtain dem files

How/Where do i obtain the dem files for microdem???  i have read numurous tuts and can't find any.

I loaded up the default dem and whatnot and wanted to actually see if it was possible to get that one into wrpedit.  i tried, i failed.  probablly because the specs of pic were off, how do i change dm maps to be 256x256 with 50 m resolution???

please help me

You can find 30m resolution DEMs, almost exclusively for the US in many places, try here:

Unfortunately finding a source of DEMs for other areas of the world in 30m resolution is difficult or will involve paying for them.

Gren wrote a tutorial on how to prepare DEMs for WrpEdit, it is no longer available unfortunately (at least I can't find it), but I believe he is going to be re-writing it.
